The ref didn't have much of a chance. The guy could have made an attempt to hand him off to the ref. He's out cold with no way to support himself...getting dumped like that could cause a serious injury.
I'm no fighter but if you know your opponent is out cold wouldn't it be the respectful thing to let your opponent down easily? You aren't enemies. It is a sport. Right? I was grossed out when jones let a limp machida fall and this feels similar.

Wand did let Rampage's unconsious body fall through the ropes squirting blood after the 2nd beating he handed him in Pride.
