NATE Cheats and Still LOSES!

You know it really wouldn't be that funny if it weren't for all of the shit Nasty Nate has said over the years and the fake belt incident. It is too bad no one kept an archive of all the posts Nate made where he talked shit on others over on OKFN.

Serious question, was that a cheap shot? I mean, it was obvious the other guy was holding his nads but at that time, the ref hadn't actually stepped in.

Is it just poor sportsmanship more than anything else?

im not making excuses.. i should have throw more punches and sprawled more.. if you watch as soon as we clinch up for the first time I tell Kevin he had vas all over him.. he had it on his back and neck. I just couldnt hold on to him. there was no cheap shot I had been landing the leg kicks and just followed up with the right, it was accidental.
i was rusty had only been trainning for a month and a half after a two year lay off of training. I appreciate everyone that came out to watch the fights. I will continue training and coaching, I still think I should have gotten the desicion, I had two knock downs in the first round and 5 sub attemps in the third. not a great preformance but it shows me what I need to work on before my next fight.

I am not from Tulsa, but have gotten to know a few of you over the last year.  I typically stay out of these types of discussions, but after reading the above post, I wanted to share my unbiased thoughts on the events of Friday and the retorts through today.  I do not know Nate, and from what I hear he is a good kids jits/MFS coach.

I was at the fights with a decent view of the action, and Nate clearly lost that fight 29-28- winning the first round, losing rounds 2 and 3. I understand he was the home town guy, and the clear favorite given his extensive training experience with the Miletich camp, DAC, and Machado.  I question this pedigree now, not based on his performance, but based on his reaction to losing this fight.  First, he comes on this forum and openly accuses his opponent of cheating by grease.  This forum is viewed by folks around Oklahoma and the US.  He is slandering (technically libel) his opponent even though Mr. Nix (who I have heard is one of the best refs in the state and widely respected fighter), found nothing wrong with his opponent’s skin.  So by proxy, Nate is now saying that not only was his opponent a cheater, but also, Mr. Nix was "in on it" or is at the very least incompetent.

Furthermore, Nate still feels no remorse for hitting his opponent after kicking him in the jewels, and still contends that was a legitimate second knock down that should be scored as such.  Ok, was Mr. Nix standing in front of the fighters, no.  But, everyone in that arena saw the low blow without the benefit of the best seat in the house, which was occupied by Nate.  Was the cross on the button illegal?  Maybe not, as the ref hadn't made it between them yet.  But, is raising your hands to tap gloves, and then smashing your opponent illegal?  I can tell you this, the crowd did not like it.  The boos were cascading after the replay.  I am sure I have seen a home town crowd turn on a local fighter like that before, but I just can't remember when.  So, maybe the 2nd "knock-down" wasn't technically illegal in Nate's eyes, but given the ref stoppage for the low blow, it should not be counted in the scoring.  I also don't think the fans would have counted it as a glorious knock-down either.

Just my two cents.

If all it takes for a 3-8 fighter to beat one of the greatest local fighters we've ever had (who sells more tickets that any other fighter around) is a little baby oil, then maybe I just need to hit Walgreens and I can go handle Brock Lesnar!

Good post, elcid.

Whether the knockdown was legal or not isn't really the point, though I would never want to win a fight like that.

The judges got it right. It was clearly a win for Barnes. Comeback fight or not, a guy who is as impressed with himself as Nate is should have been able to easily handle him in that fight. Nate was pitched a softball for a reason, and he should have been able to hit it out of the park. Barnes clearly had no ground game and I would think even a fake purple belt should be able to at least control him, if not sub him.

By the way, after seeing that I can confidently say that LJ Mier would run through Nate like shit through a goose.

Lol. Rusty or not, with a guy laying flat in your guard like that, offering both arms like it was fucking Christmas, any purple belt in the world should be able to get the tap or at the very least a sweep.

If Nate was a white belt I would completely understand.

great thread!

i want nate to fight john cottrell on august 27th @ the bricktown brawl 6. i hope we can make it happen

ok, well it was a thought. jc is 4-2 and has had some troubles up to this point as a pro. but i have offered the fight to a couple of other guys too. to be honest id love to see him fight anthony lewis too.

I helped work Nates corner and here are my thoughts and observations.

Since when is kicking someone right square in the nutsack a bad thing?

All seriousness aside, the nut shot was not intentional, he is Nasty Nate, not Dirty Nate. The punch was merely a follow up to the kick. The referees very first instruction is "protect yourself at all times".

When I saw Barnes wearing underwear instead of fight shorts, I suspected he might have greased. Do I know for a fact that he did - no. But he slipped out of some stuff pretty easy. Nate had a closer vantage point than anyone. Nix could not stop the fight in the middle to check for greasing, that's the commisions job. In Nevada and Cali te commision checks the fighters for grease before entering the cage. They should do the same thing here.

I thought Nate had more effective striking and tried to finish more on the ground. The whole 10 pt must system has been argued for years. If you judged 10 pt must on striking, then did pts similar to a grappling tournament for ground work - what kind of score would you come up with? Seems for MMA that would be a better option but that can be argued all day. The judges saw Barnes in side control at the end of the match and that is the last thing they remember.

Nate had taken over a year off, and had knee sugery. Barnes was a good opponent for a return fight and going the distance will help both fighters in their careers. I would like to see a rematch and see who learned the most from the fight. I think Nate learned a lot and will come back much more improved.

Hahaha, come on, man. These excuses are pathetic. Nate was given a 3-11 can and couldn't  pull off a win, even after dropping him with a sucker punch. Complaining about the scoring system when talking about this fight is just stupid. Barnes clearly won rounds 2 and 3, hands down.

in the past when everyone was bashing nate i never did, in fact i only chimed in 1 time and that was to say that i thought nate was a good guy, and i still do. but this ismy thoughts on this.

1 as far as the fight goes, nate was clearly the favorite. i would welcome a fight with barnes with any of my 155ers and we would win them all. so saying it was a good come back fight i guess its all depends on your oppinion of your fighters skill levels. but i would say that a blackbelt under pat militech in his mma system should have handled barnes easily.

2 as a purple belt under carlos machado, nates triangle attempts were lazy, he didnt elevate his hips at all when he was trying to lock it up and thats why barnes was able to escape so easily. not because he was greased.

3 in a no gi situation, when you are attempting an armbar from your guard you shouldnt try from wrist control, you have to control the elbow that you are attacking, bas rutten teaches this on day 1. any guy worth a shit @ no gi grappling should know this and use it without fail.

4 i used to date a girl who used baby oild in her bath every morning and in the event she started sweating you could not mistake the scent. between the first and second rd barnes would have smelled like a johnson and johnson factory and nix would have noticed guaranteed.

like i said i have never been one to bash anyone really, but these are just some thoughts i have

jujitsujamo - I helped work Nates corner and here are my thoughts and observations.

1. I stopped reading after this.

2. I wouldn't admit that in public.

3. plans to kick Jamo right square in teh nuts

Wow, the beating Nate is taking on this thread is surpassed only by the beating Barnes gave him Friday night.

I just got into town today. WOW, what a thread and where to begin?

Nate is a coach and as a coach it is hard to be both... coach and competitor.

Nate, congratulation for putting yourself out there. It is a tough place to be.

you know there are several reasons why i dont fight. 1 im fat, and that is the biggest reason. and 2 is i find it impossible to be both coach and competitor. i am always stopping my workout to help someone who doesnt quite "get it" it sucks. but mostly the fat thing

nate was given a can to fight and he blew it! his bjj belts are about as legit as my Big Chief Promotions Overall championship belt! unless Nate is saying he is a purple belt in bjj to get bitches then i will back off, but he certainly talks big and lost...then comes off as a dick making lame excuses

Thunderlips The Ultimate Male - Good to see Apollo allows his BJJ coaches to purchase their belts.

Todd - I generally don't "take the bait" as I realize you are just trying to illicit a response and are much different in person than your tough guy "Internet personna". However in this case I do take offense to your completely uneducated statement. Myself and two others teach BJJ at Apollos and Nate teaches MMA. Nate does train BJJ and does teach it to his students but also teaches them much more. I can tell you for a fact that he is a very talented instructor.

You state that Apollo shows his BJJ coaches how to buy belts. I can assure you that is nowhere near a factual statement. Myself and the other coaches have all been training since the early 90s. We are not concerned with anyone elses rank and do not judge ourselves based on what others are doing or are ranked.

I recommend that you educate yourself better prior to making an ignorant statement.
