Wife went to a local Kempo school today looking to buy me a 100# thai bag for x-mas. The guy there was beyond friendly, very helpful to her, and then told her that he had a used one there at the school that was no longer being used that she could have for free!
Now I have a 6' bag (with chains on it) in my garage, and I'd like an idea on the best way to hang it.
My garage is finished, including the roof so I can't see the beems. But when I looked up in my crawl space, the rafters were only 2"X4"'s.
Whats the best way to hang this bad boy without a rafter coming down on me :) I know there are free standing platforms, but those limit movement around the bag.
You could get a heavy duty wall hanger from Ringside. They will hold the 100 lb bags. I have two wall mount hanger right now, they come out 4 ft from the wall, there is plenty of room to move around them.
You can screw an eyebolt from below into a rafter but before adding the bag go into the attic and place 2x4 blocking between the rafter and each rafter on each side to create a box to help frame it in and make the rafter more stable preventing it from twisting.
attach a spring to the eyebolt and hang the chains from it.
anyone got a link to some wall hangers? I need to get my bag hung.....the ones I found didn't look like they would to be able to kick the bag (i.e. not far enough away from the wall)
For what it's worth, I used to think the same thing, but when I saw one at this kempo place, the damn thing came out 4 ft from the wall, plenty of room for even a big boy like me to get around.
I'm planning on ordering one from ringside. I'd rather not pay the extra 80$ +shipping, but I'm scared to hang a 100 pounder off my 2X4's.
