I am twenty years old and have wanted to go into Army or Marine special forces since fifteen, however right after I turned eighteen my son was born, which needless to say altered my plans. Recently I have been swayed more towards the Army because of the combatives program and wanting to compete in MMA. I would really like to go active duty, but my fiance doesn't want to leave Colorado and I couldn't see being away from my son for multiple years at this point in his life. I have decided to go into the reserve most likely, but I had a few questions for experienced soldiers.
One of the main reasons I want to get in the Army is to get the combatives training and get into MMA, but I was wondering if it is possible to even do all the training if you aren't active? I am also hoping to get an MOS that would allow me to train others in combatives eventually or possibly even a drill sgt., but I don't know if you are able to go into any of the specialty schools throught the reserves.
I was also wondering if when you sign up for active duty if you can have any say in where you get stationed, because I now there is a base here in CO (Ft. Carson), but I also don't know if they only have certain MOS positions there and if so what they are. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
