I once went months without showering (7) and have reveled at the stenches I've created.
I've met my superior and my employees are complaining. Fair. It's fucking insane. 3-4x the stench I've ever created from PBR and chili dog farts. I pride myself on stinky farts. I have nothing on this guy.
Im convinced its a medical problem. It's too much. Guy is 350+lbs, maybe 20, very introverted, and a hard ass worker. I'm talking chaffing until he bleeds and push through it and never complain, obviously hurting, sweating like a whore in church, worker.
How do I handle the situation? It's too extreme to assume it's anything but a medical problem. I'm talking 7/10 times you're turning around when approaching him. You literally can't be around him, it will make you gag. Death I tell you.
If I'm speechless, it's a big deal when it comes to gross.
I'm his boss. Advice? Ignore it (impossible)? Address him kindly? Congratulate him? I really don't know.
Why did you hire him to begin with if he smells like that? Can you not write him up for creating a hostile work environment or something? You can write him him up for poor hygiene no?

This is the correct answer. I have to deal with this at work sometimes. In my position though, they are my patients and they haven't showered or are wearing shit stained clothes. I speak to them as a friend and let them know I am genuinely concerned. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't but the bottom line is you should always go directly to the person before complaining to hr or someone else.
