Ok, so for those of you that trane - do you think that there's a benefit to training a single martial art (for example BJJ, Judo) as opposed to several at the same time? If I were to strictly train BJJ as opposed to me training in Boxing, Muay Thai, and BJJ?( I can't imagine that you could mix up the arts) what do you guys think?
Bump
Train BJJ if you only want to learn BJJ, train MMA if you want to learn some of everything.
if you want to compete ufc, trane ufc. if you want compete judo, trane judo
For self defense, do you think training all martial arts is better than training only one?
Bumpity bump
If you're looking for purely self defense I'd say the more you know about attacking/defending from different positions the better off you'll be so train 'em all.
Trane what you find fun and enjoyable. If you like Judo, boxing, kickboxing, BJJ, Crane Style Monkey Crouch Kung Fu, trane that, too.
Whatever your wallet and body can handle will be fine. As for self defense, all are going to provide you with a decent ability to defend yourself. What matters most is not "what" you trane, but trane-ing it to the point of competence.
Just enjoy yourself and don't over think it. All of this should be fun, and stick to that.
I'd say it depends on what options you have available to you. Here's my opinion:
If you have the chance, and time, to train everything separate, and also mix in MMA classes to tie it all together, then do it like that. If you are just doing it for fun, then figure out what your favorite style is...train mostly that..and just mix other stuff in when you can.
And unfortunately because of the current state if the UG, your thread likely won't get much attention. Most of the fan bois on here now days would rather troll, and gossip about TMZ style drama, than to actually discuss UFC frate traneing!
^ Thanks for all the help guys,
Basically, I'm 17 - I've trained in grappling, and boxing before - now I have the options to train Gi BJJ, Muay Thai, and Boxing. I'm considering doing all three. I'm either going to a military college or I'm going to enlist in the military (with the hopes of going the special operations force route) it's pretty obvious that I'll never be a GSP - I just want to know I'd be able to handle myself effectively when the proverbial hits the fan.
Training in the gi is very beneficial for self defense...unless most of your situations involving attacks take place at a beach, water park, or nudist colony.
Well, at least you spelled trane right. You're off to a good start. Pretty sure most branches of the military offer mma training now.
1911Bob -Just bend over and pull your pants down at look back at him like a dragon most guys will back away.
Should I hiss too? And If I had a boner would that benefit as well?
No, a boner would keep you from being able to bend over too far. You need to be able to bend over far to make sure your asshole is fully dilated so they can see that you are serious

Training different disciplines gets u in bad habits for mma IMO. If u just train bjj, u have a bad habit of getting/staying in positions without thinkin about gettin hit. Same with boxing, u get used to stayin in the pocket without thinkin about gettin taken down.
Muay thai, judo/wrestling n mma is best for self defense IMO

Dude, my dick is humongous - are you sure it won't intimidate any onlooking attacker?

I have the option to train in Boxing, Muay Thai and BJJ - that's pretty much it.
