UFC 143 co-headliner Roy Nelson recently ended a two-fight skid – which included decision losses to now-champ Junior Dos Santos and ex-titleholder Frank Mir – with a third-round TKO of Mirko "Cro Cop" Fililpovic at UFC 137 in October. Now, he looks to maintain the momentum on Saturday during a pay-per-view event at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Events Center.
In the past five years Nelson has lost just four times. Every one of the losses came to a current or former UFC titleholder, so they're certainly forgivable.
"Everybody who's ever beat me won't beat me again," he said. "It's like, 'I've got your number now.'"
Given the recent shakeup in the UFC's heavyweight division, Saturday's winner will be in the thick of the title picture.
"This is one of those fights where it makes a big change in the heavyweight division," Nelson said. "So it's actually a big fight for the fans if they know about."
I like Roy, don't get me wrong but I don't think he's ready for another beating by JDS or possibly Reem. Nelson has sort of become the Wand of the heavyweight div, by that I mean a tough as nails above average gate keeper. He's got nothing for the top five.
Devlin - Nope, i love roy but he hasnt got the wins to justify it, plus dos santos destroyed him. Overeem would kill the man.
Dos Santos Couldn't finish him. If Nelson Finishes Werdum, I think you may change your mind.
no offence but surviving does mean shit if youre getting slaughtered for 3 rounds straight.
there is nothing that shows how skilled he is by surviving infact it shows how weak he is compared to the higher comp.
can he win against Werdum? of course
None Taken, But I think you're a doodie head.
WAR KUNG FU PANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If he finishes Werdum he still needs another 1 or 2 wins, and i wouldnt make him first choice regardless since we saw how jds vs him plays out, and it wasnt even close.
I love Roy, but I don't see what new he could bring to a rematch with JDS??? He is in way better shape, and beating Werdum would be a gigantic win, hopefully he will show us these new tools he'll bring if he was given a title shot.
