Someone stifle Roy's KO power and take him down and GNP'd him ? Or will Cormier choose to roll the dice and keep it on the feet ?
RockMeAmadeus - Cormier by Anything He WantsI'm inclined to think so but I think Cormier might not take Nelson as serious as he should ... Nelson's bjj is ridiculously good so he's got a good shot at pulling off a submission ... Unless Cormier employs the clinch against the cage tactic to wear Nelson down like he did with Mir then go for the kill ...
Roy always has a punchers chance but he we likely be outclassed.
CRE - When is the last time Roy used his BJJ for anything other than positional dominance en route to a TKO?I agree, and couldn't have said that any better. I think you're hitting the nail on the head.
Cormier via ragdolling.
Roy doesn't take this sport seriously enough to beat an elite wrestler like Cormier who is established at the elite level.
Roy Nelson is an exciting fighter to watch, his toughness, one punch knockout power and BJJ pedigree make him a very dangerous threat, but is he truly elite? Not at all, not even close.
Whenever Roy faces a truly elite fighter in their prime, he gets squashed, beaten easily and completely obliterated for the most part.
That is because those guys are taking the sport far more seriously than he is.
If Roy was taking the sport seriously he would be a LHW.
CRE - When is the last time Roy used his BJJ for anything other than positional dominance en route to a TKO?That's what I mean will we see Roy get taken down an GNP'd ? Roy has stellar bjj and ha always seemed to use it exactly like that... Take you down , get side control , crucifix , wait for ref to stop the fight or KO them standing ... Same thing every fight ...

I'm curious if Cormier will have better cardio than his last fight against Mir as he blamed it on UFC jitters ...
Roy could go to LHW for sure but then he may not do as well I mean c'mon do you think he has a chance against Jon jones ? Of coarse he would have a punchers chance but he's too slow for LHW IMO ...
Cormier by being the better type of fat
bit of mma math here, but mir outstruck roy all night, cormier outstruck mir all night
cormier has got to outstrike roy
Cormier keeps this on the feet and pressed against the cage. Nelson loses this by again being too slow.
Kings21 - Cormier keeps this on the feet and pressed against the cage. Nelson loses this by again being too slow.I thinks Cormier will stifle Nelson game plan and use these same tactics...
Never know tho cause with josh Barnett he mainly was striking ...

Yea he may mainly use his striking and take advantage of his speed but I think Nelson is a little more dangerous on the feet when it comes to flat out KO ability. The guy has a knack for being able to land that one punch thats needed. Unless he plans on using a lot of footwork I think his best bet is to get it against the cage. We'll see though. Should be an entertaining one for sure.
Nelson has better luck against taller and bigger heavweights and usually loses to the shorter and faster ones. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he gets KOed or TKOed a la Orlovski.

ausgepicht -Possibly but I believe Nelson has more one punch KO power than Cormier and I think Roy has a great chance to land it as he's way more experienced and uses various setups for the KO punch he seems to land ... Cormier should stay away from leg kicks IMO cause that's when Nelson comes over the top with that bomb ... It's like he waits for it so he can counter it ...

bit of mma math here, but Nelson blistered Stefan Struve, leaving him in a heap for the KO win. Struve did much the same to Stipe Miocic.
Therefore, Roy will outclass Stipe standing, borderline not even fair. It's almost guaranteed to end in a KTFO for Roy, TKO at worst.
See how MMAth works?
