I just ordered a JP high pressure .308 bolt and firing pin for my LR-6.5. That's as close as I'm going to get to "new gun any day" from now on.

The 5.56 NATO cartridge is rated for higher chamber pressures than the .223 Remington cartridge, therefore you can safely fire .223 ammo out of a 5.56 chambered rifle but you should not fire 5.56 ammo out of a .223 chambered rifle.
Will it blow up if you do? No, probably not (but maybe, lol). It will probably prematurely wear your .223 chambered rifle though. I think it's kind of like firing +P ammo through a pistol that isn't rated for it. It's a general best-practice not to do it.
I also bought a new in wall safe for it.

Very nice. Not too long ago those were priced closer to 1150-1200 bucks out the door, they've come back down to sane prices recently. I avoided the AR platform for a while, but when I finally got one it quickly became one of my favorites, and now I'm looking to put one together myself. More than likely, you will start wanting to add things, like optics and stuff......the choices are mind-boggling.
