New guy annoys me

  • Explain the rules.. no leg locks.. slams.. etc..
    - He tells me his krav maga exp and tang soo do... I say cool
    - I tell him I wont be doing any submissions first time out...
    - He gets frustrated after awhile and tells me how he'd elbow my face and break my thumbs.
    - Next round I ask him if he's ready to try it with me doing subs he says sure
    - I sub him over and over..
    - Last minute he tries a straight ankle lock.
    - I defend look at him tell him thats not allowed like I said.. he says I know I just a saw it.. and so you know what, its ok go ahead and put a straight ankle lock on him and crank that shit until he yelped.

    Fuck you new guy

    Maybe I'm a dick. I don't care.

yeah youre a dick but w/e its not like hes gonna last more than a month anyway.

shoulder crossface from side control or chest pressure on the face from the mount.

gusto - gotta make guys like that tap from pressure

Give him a special Knee on Belly - drive it right into their diaphragm and put your head into their neck!

I did that to. I took his back and flattened him and he tapped.

Wrong way to handle it, imo.

I'm guessing you could spot this guy as one of "teh deadly" types when you first met him, as most of us can. So, with people like that it's best just to be polite the first couple of rolls and say "do anything you want" while you proceed to beat (on) him with positioning and pressure. That way there's no excuses when he sees what doesn't work, and the result is either his ego goes away with a quickness, or he does. It's win-win.

Elbow his face and break his thumbs...from mount. ;) Man, I love it when the "streetfighter/self defense" guys just assume that in a real altercation, no BJJ guy would ever think to gouge eyes, bite, strike the groin, use pressure points, etc...from deliberate positional dominance. Lucky for them we're all just morons who only know how to pull guard and flail around grasping for Gi handles. Phone Post

so true...

it's best just to repeatedly sweep them. it annoys teh hell out of them.

It's your obligation to positively demonstrate the virtues of your art, your academy and reflect positively those of your instructor.

You should patiently listen. Instruct on the correct ways to train. Then, demonstrate the superiority of the style your are advocating.

My favorite way to handle these guys is to listen patiently, explain in soft voice, and tap them as much as possible using the least amount of force possible.... ;)
...... but then, I'm old, almost 50.....

Why are ankle locks not allowed? Aren't you guys just training?

-.

a guy once said that to me and i reponded with, "go ahead."
he didn't. these guys are always cowards.

Especially if you say "I assume we both can do this stuff"

make eye contact throughout the duration of the rolling session and constantly breathe on his face.

Do you think it is wise for someone who just started to mess with attacking someone's ankle or knee?

HELLO INJURY.

Some of my friends often say shit like that, lol. Its way easier to eye gouge and twist fingers from the top of mount than under, lol.

This is why I am reluctant to roll with new guys these days. I used to roll with them when they asked but now I hesitate. I feel like it is a lose, lose situation. If I go easy on them and they go nuts I have to open a can of whoop ass on em. Then it makes me look bad because I am the experienced student. If I roll to easy with them they get a false sense of confidence and then go nuts later.

It sounds like this guy had it coming. He obviously thought he was tough with his Krav Maga and Tang Su Do background and needed a hard lesson

I had a guy in a unsecured triangle (one arm was trapped but no angle) and he farted and laughed, i tightened that fucker up and cranked his arm, he bitched and moaned a bit.

My favorite 'calm down' move is the smother choke from mount

basically control his head with arm wrapped around it...use other arm to keep straight and smother using chest.

Feels like you are dying

Helio Gracie's definition of a blue belt was someone who can defend themselves from a larger, stronger person's attack. Brand new guys who go crazy are IDEAL training partners for an experienced student of jiujitsu because they will do unpredictable, nutty things that don't make sense from the perspective of a trained guy. That's what makes them great. If you can't defend yourself from untrained madness, you shouldn't have any color on your belt.
