New Haven CT Apizza

Pepe's, Sally's and Modern are usually all on the best pizza lists, has anyone tried them?

I’ve tried all 3. Sally’s was the best IMO. Top 5 pizza I’ve had in my life.

White clam at Pepe's is outstanding.

Its actually pretty nice if you stick near Yale

If you want a pizza designed by a dyslexic guy who couldn’t even make a proper saucer and burns the edges then go for it. It’s no comparison to a true and proper NYC coal oven pizza. I imagine Pepe got fired from the original pizzeria in NYC back in the day, moved to New Haven where no one had ever had pizza before, and then told everyone his was how it was supposed to be.

I grew up in CT and my sister lived in New Haven, I had Pepe’s and Sally’s but when i was growing up (late 80’s early 90’s) the best pizza I can remember was a place called Post corner pizza in Darien.

If you have never seen his pizza reviews, his scale is basically this:

Anything in the 7's is a great neighborhood spot you can go to on a regular basis.
Anything in the 8's is worth traveling to. Go outside your neighborhood to get it because it's good.
Anything in the 9's means you beat down the door to get at.
There are no 10's.

Basic summary. He loves New Haven apizza.

I almost went to Yale..unfortunately, they dropped their  wrestling program, which I believe was one of the oldest in the country.
