Nice!

My favorite is the East meets West. That is good stuff.

sweet, i gotta try the samurai jack thingy

I definately like that "rack shoulder lock". I've been taught to do something very similar for my omoplata, same entrance with the legs, except instead of turning in toward them like that we'd scoot our butts back to flatten them and finish with a straight armlock or transition to omoplata. I never thought of being able to finish with that position, very kewl.

thanks for posting them!

Oh man. Outstanding.

I don't get that rack shoulder lock finish. Is it a gogo plata, an omo plata or something else? I'm confused. Anyone?

???

Hey Jonpall,

The rack is kind of like an omo plata. When you hook your right instep under his left armpit and triangle your legs, you can generate a great deal of downward pressure by straightening both legs.

This happens because, as in the video, when you get your hips out to your right, your right instep becomes blocked by his body (if you dont' turn your hips, your right instep presses into his arm, which he can lift out of the way). This means that now, when you straighten your right leg, your right knee will come down, instead of your right foot simply raising upwards. In turn, your left foot which is triangled under your right knee (which, again is moving downards) will too move down, creating a great deal of downward pressure on his shoulder.

If you look closely at the video, you can see that it looks like my friend is being pushed away as he taps. It really stretches the person out.

dogface,

I've seen the Garcia move you're talking about. First, Garcia's the shit. His tapes changed my game. That said, the difference in the move is the placement of the right instep. Garcia hooks it under the opponent's neck, whereas the rack uses the armpit. If find this easier because you don't need to bring your foot out to where it's easy for him to grab.

FreestyleJJ,

That's one way I finish, after getting my hips out. If it's on tight, they tap before you can start pulling your butt back.

Thanks.

I don't have enough flexibility to do these in real sparring situation:(
Look cool though:)

Jorgen

elliot's moves are sick, he regularly taps me with alot of these.

ttt

Yeah, do you have to be REALLY flexible to do these moves, or just a little?

Elliot, when are you coming back to KATA? Sorry I didn't get to go the time you came. Sonia told me she was bringing you by to help me with NAGA. Anyway, I wanna see these moves live, preferably on someone else ;p

I don't think you have to be too flexible at all to do the rack. After putting them in the london, you just have to pull your foot down and pivot into position. It doesn't take as much flexibility as it seems.

Freestyle JJ is correct. Moves that appear to require flexibility (in this case, at least) really just require you to get your hips out.

If you think these moves are even ok, wait 'til you see the shit Spooky's come up with. Guard-X is definitely going to raise some eye-brows. Mark my words - one day, this kid is going to revolutionize BJJ. If he ever competes, that is. ;D

Jonpall,

A month or two back, you started a thread asking for what to do when the guy grabs your foot as you're trying the omo plata. In the thread, I tried miserably to describe east meets west, but to no avail. In any case, the set-up is to kick your right leg high in the air, raising the opponent's left arm, which gives you the space to get your left foot hooked in. Make sense?

Gil,

Congrats for winning @ NAGA, dude. Sorry I missed you in class, but it looks like you didn't need any help after all. Bocek is fucking sick man, so I hope to swing by and feel helpless again either this Thursday or sometime next week. How did your fights go down?

Elliott

Elliott,

With regards to Thursday, check with Sonia because the mats have been closed down at KATA temporarily. Actually I'll email you the details at your bjj.ca address. Hopefully it will re-open by Thursday. I hope to learn and apply your moves.

My matches at NAGA were pretty boring. My opponents were finishing guys doing flying armbars and triangles, but I just stuck to the basics to get the Ws. I was aggressive and no one scored on me and I tapped one guy in about 30 seconds. I used a lot of moves/finishes Chris Brennan showed me at a recent seminar so I was happy with that. But I wish I could have used some of your moves for some spectacular finishes and make the NAGA highlight reel :) Your teammate Stephan Kesting also helped me a lot before the tournament and I owe him a lot.

Yes Bocek is "the immovable object"...lol.

ttt.

Elliott and Spooky are two great innovators and training partners.

Elliot, we found a major problem with guard-x, its very easy to step out as its being locked up....but i think its just a matter of being more focused on grabbing the far hip so he cant rotate out.
