If they fire them, then they would have to spend more money looking for other people who they would then try to lowball in order for them to sign.

Pretty much, it isn't worth it.
What would you expect @ 70 million over 6 years? Gotta ration that money out by spending the bare minimum during the early days and try build the brand the last year or so by pumping the rest of the money in to sign that next go to deal, if that ever happens again.
