Wanted to let the world know that as of tonight (August 16th) The jiu jitu world just got a little richer. Robin Gieseler was promoted to BLACKE BELT IN GRACIE JIU JITSU from RELSON GRACIE, 8th dgree black/red belt, at a special seminar held @ Relson Gracie Columbus.
The event was attended by numerous jiu jitsu practioners from all over the state of OHIO, as Robin is pretty well loved by everyone.
Robin has been training for over 12 years and I've had the honor of training with him for 6 of them. Everybody who knows him knows that he fits the jiu jitsu god stereotype... super nice off the mat and super tough on. The man is an incredible technician.
Robin may also be the very last of the old school black belts. The guys that back in the day only had a few basic moves to learn in several months so those moves were drilled in daily to a level much deeper than they could be in any modern student who trys to absorb dozens of new moves a week.
The whole learning curve has changed and while there is a ton more knowledge available for the modern student it seems like it's nearly impossible to get a grasp of the basics like Robin has. I think he might just be the last person awarded a black belt on earth to get the best of both worlds.
Phil, I think the pics will be posted soon on Gracieohio.com
Be sure and ask Robin about the crazy guy from some art museum that tried to crash the after-party and wanted to use Robin to explore the "synergies" between martial arts and modern art.
Even crazy people know that black belts are teh sexy.
