New way to judge fights

First off, this isn't serious... just thought i'd get some different views on an idea and how it might work.

Applause-o-meter for the decisions

How much different would fights have been scored if the crowd judged the fights? More controversy or less?

Obviously it would be a little biased if hometown fighters went to a decision.

I hate hearing a decision followed by boos. If thousands of people disagree with the ruling by 3 "judges", are the judges right? But instead of leaving it in the hands of 3 people, would it be more effective if 20000 got to voice their opinion on decision?

The current system is good, but not unanimous. When one judge has 30-27, another 29-28, and another 28-29, who is right?

Seems like a shame when everyone in a building thinks one fighter won, while 2 of 3 people give to the other guy, and he gets boo'ed.

Flame away

How about the crowd decides if the loser lives or dies, Gladiator style?

Wait for the Silva/Sonnen fight in Brazil. The crowd might decide who walks away alive.

The majority is not necessarily right.

Agreed, but would it create more or less controversy then allowing only 3 people to voice their opinion of the fight?

In a perfect world, those 3 judges would be properly educated and should have a substantial above average eye on judging fights. But sadly, that's not often the case. Did Bisping really beat Hamil? Did Garcia really beat Nam Phan? 2 of the 3 seem to think so, but what does everyone else think?

yep, popularity contests always yield better results than skilled judging

lol @ applause-o-meter.

Bisping would never win another decision.

Great idea. Wonder if Dana could get the shows on Nickelodeon too.

Fuck it, why don't we just have a popularity poll at weigh-ins and not even get bogged down with the actual fight? Phone Post

Also, Dana could get Simon Cowell to judge, and the option to text in to vote on decisions!!

I can think of quite a few questionable Pride decisions. Rampage vs. Ninja Rua to start.
