Next season of Dr. Who has started filming

After appearing for only a handful of seconds in the 2017 Christmas special "Twice Upon a Time," Jodie Whittaker made her long-awaited debut as the titular Time Lord this past fall in Season 11 of the popular BBC sci-fi series, Doctor Who.
 
The season ran for a total of 10 episodes (a departure from the more usual 13-episode seasons of the series' modern revival) and concluded on Dec. 9. As the season finale neared, news came that the following season of the show would actually not be coming in 2019, but in 2020 instead. While we don't yet have an official air date for this next season, the Doctor Who social media channels have revealed that production of Season 12 has officially begun.
 
The announcement came with a new behind-the-scenes picture of the series' cast, Jodie Whittaker (The Doctor), Bradley Walsh (Graham), Tosin Cole (Ryan) and Mandip Gill (Yaz) all together again and back on set. "The fam is back!" the caption on the series' Facebook page read. "Filming for the next series has started."
 
While it will be a long wait before The Doctor returns to the small screen, 2019 was actually not a year without Doctor Who. In fact, fans were treated to a special episode on Jan. 1, in which the Doctor and her companions faced off against a lone, and quite terrifying, Recon Dalek.
 
Season 11 of Doctor Who was noteworthy not just because it featured the debut of the first female actress to play the role of The Doctor, but also because it featured 10 episodes that introduced new villains to the mythos of the series. Iconic foes such as the Cybermen, Silurians and Zygons were nowhere to be seen, until the Daleks returned in the New Year's Day special. Right now, it's difficult to say what Season 12 will bring. The "ban" on the series' iconic villains appears to be lifted, which means that we now might see the return of quite a few fan-favorite adversaries.
 
Doctor Who stars Jodie Whittaker as the thirteenth iteration of the titular Time Lord. Whittaker is joined by co-stars Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill in a series spearheaded by new showrunner, Chris Chibnall. The New Year's Special "Resolution" was the only new episode of 2019, with production of Season 12 now officially unfolding this year. The new episodes are slated to arrive some time in 2020.

Watched a couple episodes. Jodie was good, not great. The supporting cast was decent. But it did not hold my attention. Really I started fading when David Tennant left, stuck around through Matt Smith who was quite good. Left during the Peter Capaldi era. Not his fault, the writing completely sucked.

Honestly through all the modern Doctors there was an over emphasis on the companions a lot. In particular Rose Tyler and then Clara Oswald. Whitaker's Doctor failed to make an impression on me through the first three episodes and I got bored.

The kick off show for the series, I have to say, was INCREDIBLY annoying. I don't care what people who have NEVER WATCHED THE SHOW think about the new Doctor.

Personally, I think the idea that the Doctor regenerates with a new look and personality is brilliant.  Just fantastic.

It was a stroke of genius. When they found out the first Doctor, William Hartnell, had failing health they came up with that to save the still very young show. I believe he had early on set dementia or something. That one trick gave them the ability to recreate the Doctor endlessly.

Capaldi is a great actor. In The Thick of It, and Children of Earth he really got to show how talented he is. But the writing was so bad in his first season I totally lost interest.

I am a massive Dr Who fan, what series 11? You may as well as me to watch Highlander 2, it does not exist!
