\Nick Diaz to try professional boxing again

MMA veteran Nick Diaz will apparently dabble in professional boxing again.

Longtime promoter, matchmaker and manager Don Chagrin today announced he has signed the 26-year-old southpaw and that Diaz has received permission from Strikeforce to compete in both sports.

No date or opponent were determined for Diaz, who was recently scratched from this weekend's Strikeforce card and a title fight with Jay Hieron after skipping a mandatory drug test.

Chagrin admits the signing of Diaz may be controversial, but only because of the whole "MMA vs. boxing" debate.

"I know the signing of a mixed-martial-arts fighter might be considered controversial by many boxing fans across the world," Chagrin stated in today's release. "When the subject of mixed martial arts vs. boxing arises, it always comes down to the boxer winning a boxing match easily and vice versa for MMA.

"However, after having seen the replays of Diaz's fights over the course of his career, I truly believe that this kid has what it takes to really make for some very entertaining fights within boxing. While some would state that he's merely a slugger possessing a good chin and a heavy work rate, there's something about his [rhythm] and fighting intelligence that really caught my eye."

 ^^^

That bizarre wide open "feel-out" stance would get him straight up murdered by any good boxer. He also won't have a height/reach advantage against most boxers at his weight.

He will not be a world champion boxer (although his boxing is at a professional level), he could however be a world champion in MMA.

If he wants to do something else, I'm sure they'd invite him to Abu Dahbi

Id like to see him box a few times...dude wants to FIGHT, all of the facking time! I understand him, he wants to GET PAID and KEEP BUSY.

Get your paper dog...

plus after boxing only training for a bit he may get some fucking handspeed adn power. If he had that, he may become unstoppable.

He does know that they piss test in boxing too right?

doesn't want to fight or get paid that much if he cant even cycle off weed for a month.

He doesnt need to get his head hit repeatedly, stay with mma.

I'd personally rather see him go further with BJJ.

Get into Aubu Dhabi etc. and keep fighting too.

Rickson's Aura - a fight I would have loved to see is Nick Diaz vs. Lee Murray ....if only Lee was out of prison. Nick is more well rounded, but likes to trade punches which makes this fight interesting.

Filthy streets of Stockton vs the filthy streets of London. That would be a great matchup, then they could have a contest to see who is the greater scum-bag.

Though he is obviously a much more skilled boxer, Paul Williams sometimes uses a similar wide open stance.

Doesn't make much sense career-wise. He is an excellent MMA fighter but will probably be, at best, a decent boxer, and decent boxers don't make much money. What is he thinking? Or is he thinking? Also, if he is KO'd in boxing, he will lose some credibility in the etes of MMA fans. I doubt that Sylvia's KO loss to Mercer helped his MMA career.

Just sucks how his personal choices outside of the ring or cage keep holding him back.

I love watching Diaz fight dammit!

He's still going to have to piss in a cup.

Paul Williams is a freak of nature. Considering what KJ Noons did to Diaz, I can't see Diaz having much success in boxing.

How about a vid of Nicks boxing debut? Til then your opinions of his boxing in mma matches is worthless.

Nick Diaz is garbage. His attitude is garbage. How do you gain respect of other fighters when all you do is mock people in the fight? really immature. i honestly cannot wait to see this kid get knocked the hell out.. i don't believe in his new good boy attitude .. it's all bull shit.. i did like him but as i watch fight after fight card after card with nick diaz he always seems to piss me off more and more

Just close your eyes for a second.

I want you to imagine a 160lb Paul Williams firing a straight right hand through Nick Diaz' guard.

Diaz will be killed in boxing, too slow,no power and is a bitch.
