6-8 WKS FOR ME
For what it's worth, if I were in your shoes, after New Year's Eve/Day I'd cut out the alcohol consumption from then on.
I appreciate the info guys. I began Dec 1 and still haven't had a drink just wondering if anybody thought it would be detrimental at all. I thought I'd heard about 8 weeks is sufficient.
depends on how bad you want to win.
DREAM - Gomi was drinking and partying the night before his fight with Diaz. That's why he looked like he didn't give a fuck during their fight.
excuses excuses...
At least two months.
GladiatorGannon - depends on how bad you want to win.
What if I want to win kind of a lot?

drink less.
i was never one of those super-gifted guys, if i wanted to win, i had to train my ass off and live a very disciplined lifestyle.
a dedicated fighter will wake up at 5:00 AM, no matter how hung over he is, no matter how little sleep he got, and do his roadwork.
but the truly dedicated athlete will live his life in such a way that he isn't suffering from a hangover or lack of sleep, and run much further and faster.
guess who wins?
"The will to win is nothing without the will to PREPARE to win." - Dan Gable IIRC
"A weak general seeks to go into battle and win. The victorious general seeks to win, and then go into battle." - Sun Tzu (paraphrased, badly)
if you're half assing your training, it might not do much damage, but if you're truly pushing your body to the limit every day (the way you should), you have to treat your body right just to recover from the workouts.
Good shit Gannon, I appreciate it man.
I think the jury will always be out on this. Some guys never drink. Of those, some win every fight and some suck just as bad as if they were drunk during the fight.
It has long been believed that alcohol can have beneficial effects when consumed correctly. It stands to reason that applies whether you are an athlete or an economist. I'm not an apologist for alcohol consumption or anything, I just don't think it is that easy to put time frames onto something like that.
The human psyche can even come into play. If you truly believe something is helping you, it can. That goes for both drinking and not drinking before a fight.
A doctor once explained it to me something like this. Alcohol is like a garbage man. If you have a glass of wine every day or every other day, the garbage man will walk through the neighborhood of your body and clean stuff up taking away the bad stuff and leaving the neighborhood cleaner and easier to live in and drive around in. If you have 2 glasses, the garbage man will still clean stuff but he'll miss something here or there and the neighborhood won't be the same. With 3-5 drinks he'll not only stop picking up garbage but he'll actually start depositing his own while meandering around the neighborhood all drunk and stupid creating obstacles and roadblocks.
Personally, I don't really drink heavily. I don't really cut alcohol from my body until 2-3 weeks out because it helps thin your blood allowing your heart to work more easily. Wine has anti-free radicals and generally has a benefial effect for me. I stop only because I don't want to retain water from alcohol consumption. I feel it helps me fight better and even recover better because I don't abuse it. To each his own though.
