Because, I used to train in it. As an adult. There are things that adults can do, that children should not. I feel MMA is one of them. Where am I being unclear on this point?
There are things that children should not be involved in, in my opinion. I like watching a decent porn every once in a while. Gets my rocks off. Doesn't mean that I want a kid watching it. While I don't smoke bud (or tobacco, actually), I don't think that the Federal government should be throwing people in jail for pot. On the other hand, that doesn't mean that I think children should smoke anything. Same with driving cars, getting married, entering business contracts, and MMA.
BTW, it is also why I don't tend to post on the UG. I post on this board (the Judo Board, FTW), the S&C Forum, and the OG.

My role models as a kid were my Dad, Bruce Lee and Arnold. Two entertainers and one solid dude. I came out ok.
MMA doesn't create thugs but some MMA programs can. There are also Cobra Kai type dojos too. There are MMA programs I wouldn't let my kids near and there are some that I would. On average, I'd be far more wary of an MMA program for the same reason that Jigoro had to sneak around behind his folk's back. Thank goodness for Kano's sneakiness! Good parenting almost screwed up everything there!
Any responsible parent wants to keep their kids surrounded by by good, positive experiences and people as much as possible. This way when they encounter the bad experiences they have a firm grounding on which path is "better" and can make the best decisions based on that.
In the end, good parenting should outweigh the evil and nefarious ways that TJ and his kind preach to the toddlers. He may yet produce the next Kano.

Funny thing is, I was like you until I was past 40. I studiously avoided judging on appearance, until my experience finally overcame my cement-headed naivete and I realized that people dress a certain way because they WANT TO BE PERCEIVED a certain way. Bikers dress in leather and chains, not because leather and chains are comfy, but because it screams "badass". If young girls dress like sluts, it's not because they want to set an example of chastity to all who see them.

Agreed. No one on this thread suggested otherwise. But the fact remains that public perception of MMA is much less enlightened than this view, and many parents agree with CS that MMA's violent nature makes it unwise to expose to children. That's not hating on MMA, it's making a parental judgment.
