no UFC champs have defended belt

Current champs that is (ran out of space in thread title).

LW - Sherk (beat Florian for vacant title; yet to defend)

WW - Serra (beat GSP for title in April to defend against Hughes)

MW - Silva (won title Oct???; fought non-title bought against Lutter)

LHW - Rampage

HW - Couture

I'm not complaining or anything, just showing how all the champs are new champs.

I actually can see 3 of those titles changing hands again in their next fights.

Actually, that's a good point. This is the interesting thing about the UFC. There are so many different ways to lose that it's more difficult to hold the belt, unlike in boxing. It's similar to playing king of the hill where it's difficult to stay on top. It makes it interesting because any of the top 4 or 5 fighters in a class can take or retake the title.

I like it like this, much more interesting than knowing every outcome. Predictability = boring.

Only in mma do fans actually know the champs in each weight class.

I feel this way as well, but it could prove to be detrimental (sp?) to the UFC's marketing. It's hard to market the product when belts are constantly changing.

Good point. I don't think we're ever going to see the crazy records like 42-0 in MMA like you do in boxing. There are just too many ways to lose a fight and so many aspects you have to be good at. There is always going to be someone out there who is better at something than you are.

I'm just so exitied for this sport right now. I can't image how good fighters are going to be in 10 years.

Silva and Sherk are both defending on the next show, so maybe that won't hold for much longer

Before 2007 , fights were pretty predictable. But now it seems like no fight is a safe bet, and that makes you want to order it cause anything can happen. Outside of Karo's domination last night, I was pretty surprised with the rest of the fights, even Din Thomas was having a bit of trouble at one point.

The fact that MMA is so unpredictable is what sets it apart and makes it so great.
