NOLA: Heckuva Place For The Family

It's true! Bush says so! He's been here all morning:

Nevertheless, Bush, who was last in the city in October, pronounced himself impressed with the city's recovery, although he acknowledged the signs of that bounce may be less visible to residents.

"The contrast between when I was last here and today is pretty dramatic," he said, after a brisk 10-minute motorcade run from Louis Armstrong International Airport to the New Orleans Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau on St. Charles Avenue in the Lower Garden District. "It's a heck of a place to bring your family."

Move to OG please.

I'm in Metairie, 5 minutes west of New 0rleans.

No. Couldn't get anywhere near him. Didn't even try.

Catch Mardi Gras beads along our famous parade routes:

Bush is a tool, but he is right to a point. Certain areas are alot better since his last visit, but Chalmette and the 9th ward are still screwed up.

Yes, he should have said "its a real s#@hole here stay away"! *sarcasm off

No one goes to any of those areas flowerfeeder. Showing people pictres of the 9th ward and saying its a historic neighborhood is just retarded. I live on the westbank and work in the French Quarter. Trust me when I say things are fine in the tourist area. Plus those pictures are from right after the storm. So come on down get drunk then go to 633 Toulouse st Voodoo Harley Davidson and buy yourself a shirt.

Oh, I appreciate him inviting people down here. We need the money. He shouldn't misrepresent the reality of the recovery though. Anyone who arrives in the city as a tourist would be shocked to see that a large part of the city is still untouched. A simple ride through New Orleans East on I-10 would bring a tear to most folks' eyes.

Great thread

The only people who want to go to New Orleans East are people who want to see the destuction. Most tourist aren't going to go anywhere near those areas and for good reason. I'm 26 have lived here all my life and have been to New Orleans east maybe 4 times.

There was never any reason to go to New Orleans east. You would drive through it to go to Slidell and to get to Mississippi.

Nola east is mostly Ghetto nothing to see in the area. I hate to put it that way but it is the truth. Trust me if you had come here before the storm you wouldn't have gone there so why would you now. The historic areas everyone visits are fine. There is still a little damage but not anything major.

Sales quiz:

You need to lure customers to a destination you say:

A. This city is a disaster, the hotels are flooded, its a complete @$*(^hole, but please come we could use the money.

B. The city is making a recovery, looks much better than my last visit and it a great place to bring the family, and oh by the way, they could really use your support.

People who hate the president take every little word and try to make it sound like he's evil for saying it.
