I am wondering what, if any, effects there are on training/conditioning from using dipping tobacco. I think we all know of the effects of smoking on most people's cardio who have smoked for a while.
I train do strength and cardio about four times a week and I sometimes dip on the weekends in casual or social gatherings and often wondered what effect it may have on training.
Also, recently noticed more fighters using dipping tobacco.
Anyone have any info. or experience with this???
It is common knowledge dipping has a 10% overall cardio improvement

And why would it really, it has nothing to do with your lungs unlike smoking.

In countries like Sweden and Norway a huge share of the soccer and hockey players use dip. I used dip for many years while playing soccer, and so did prob half my team mates.

This
I have used swedish smokeless tobacco for about 10 years. I am also a MMA instructor and will be fighting in 2012.
The american traditional dip (copenhagen, skoal etc) is way more dangerous for you and could make you develop gum disease if you have bad luck.
Swedish snus however is 98% safe for long time users and very safe in comparison. It's a old tradition people here in Sweden have been doing for over 200 years.
If you want to try it out I suggest the brands Ettan, General and Grov. They come both in "loose" type and "portions" which is like a small tea bag that people use for being discrete.
I remember Mayhem talking about it Rogan's podcast that he quit dipping before the fight with Bisping becuase his doctor said it wasnt good for his cardio or something like that..
Alot of smartasses on here but thanks for the relevant feedback.
I dip occasionally and noticed a few fighters as well. I'm guessing that with most of the guys being knowledgeable of the harmful effects of substances on their cardio and training that they wouldn't do it if it had a substantial negative impact.

Thanks. I know that here in the States I have recently seen a big push by Camel for their brand of snus but I haven't tried it.
Do you have any personal knowledge of adverse effects on cardio or training? I quite sure that none of it is completely safe from a health perspective but not much of anything is these days.

I can obviously understand it not having any affect on a persons lungs such a smoking would but any effects on the heart and blood pressure could also affect cardio?

That's interesting. It would be interesting to here a medical opinion on this?

I wouldn't touch Camel snus with a 10ft pole. It tastes like shit IMO. Go for quality and get a roll of some swedish snus.
There isn't any significant impact on your training unless you are lethargic and are not training hard. Since you are getting nicotine from it, it will be raising your blood pressure for 5-10 minutes after putting it in. Usually I will hold out on snus for a couple of hours before training and i'll put one in as soon as I get off the mat for the day.
A lot of swedish elite athletes use it with no apparent effects.
Also I would like to add that I use snus based on my decisions to live a healthy lifestyle. I very rarely drink and I eat healthy.
I have a phobia of getting any type of head/neck cancers.
Getting jaw cancer is a nightmare of mine so chewing tabaccy is a no-no lol
Chewing tobacco and american dip can fuck you up. That is why you should use Swedish brand snus. Snus is also unique in that it is steam-pasteurized rather than fire-cured, is not fermented and contains no added sugar. Hence it is extremely healthy compared to any other kind.
Also, you don't need to spit. I can swallow snus juice all day.
lol how fucking redneck do you have to be that you dip in social situations?
Sephiroth - lol how fucking redneck do you have to be that you dip in social situations?
Social situations like having a few beers with friends and watching the fights on a Saturday night.
Oh, I forgot, Dickhead.
Just curious because I have never used it, but is it a similar to the effect of smoking tobacco? I get really lightheaded when I smoke tobacco, so I don't really do it... Just wondering if dip would have the same effect.
Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor. This =worse cardio and higher blood pressure. Just like caffeine. It gives a false high.
I suggest you tough guys start dipping, win fights with one punch knock-outs, and get the womens.
lots of wrestlers use dip cause when they have to cut weight, I heard it helps to spit.
When I was in highschool Id say about 2/3s of the wrestlers dipped.

Takes a bit to get used to.
Sounds about right! Haha
