WTF!?
"Remembrance Day is observed on November 11th. It is a statutory holiday in the federal jurisdiction, Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Saskatchewan and the Yukon."
What the heck is wrong with Ontario these days?

add new brunswick to the list, unless that's been changed since i lived there
btw the ontario gov has a holiday that day, just the private sector doesn't have the day off
Hey, I work in a transfer payment agency for the govt and we don't get it off. They just stopped giving us Heritage day off too and replaced remembrance day and heritage day with 2 floats days you can take off whenever you want.
This way they don't have to pay for stats and the employee can take the days off whenever.
But seriously, it should be a stat. Hell, Heritage day?
Anyway, everyone wear a poppy Nov 11.
ahh go to work.
Some Politicians are trying to make it a statutory Holiday next year !
Are the same people that designate holidays in Ontario the same people holding MMA back?
Yes, they are the same people....
Showdown Joe is currently in negoiations to have Remembrance Day recognized as a holiday in Ontario. The CJA won't allow poppy pins, however, as the risk of injury is too great.
Maybe we can have MMA events on remembrance day to celebrate?
I second the motion!
It is a stat day in New Brunswick as it should be across this country. These men are hero's and should never be forgotten!!
Ludicrous the entire country can't take the day off. unless Ontario is using the day to work on getting MMA sanctioned, then there is no excuse!
In my opinion, it should be a national holiday...not to have the day off, but to recognize the lives that were lost and to recognize the few brave warriors that are still left. It is Rememberance Day...we should remember that day in history and the days/months/years that led up to it.
Why it is not a 'holiday' in Ontario, I don't know, but I am not surprised. Canario knows exactly what my positioning is on this...it's no different than MMA in Ontario. Stupidity and Ignorance and no real postioning other than 'NO...Too Bad...there's nothing you can do to change it...'.
Anyway, every year I buy a new Poppy, say 'Thanks' to a veteran in my local mall and shake his hand to let him know how I honestly feel.
Rememberance Day = Bank Holiday
I work at a Bank = Day off for me
Yaaaaaah me! :)
it could be because quebec likes to think that Col John McCrae is from montreal. so we don't have it as a holiday in ontario. he spent almost 30 years in ontario, mostly in guelph and less than 10 years in montreal but according to heritage canada he's from montreal
my mom works for the gov and she gets the day off, so do banks
The problem with Holidays that seem to make so much sense today start to make absolutely no sense in a few generations. But by then we are stuck with them.
Yes the veterans should be remembered. Do you need a holiday to do that?
If anyone feels that they should go and attend a Remembrance Day memorial, do it. Take the day off (without pay) and actually sacrifice something to do it. Like those men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice on your behalf.
My dads a veteran. Go Pop!!!
I am taking sled dog's advice and taking tomorrow off.

Excellent point Sleddog.
