Not to worried about how many side's it has. Also i have to add i'm not to worried about dana and his lawyers considering i live in Scotland.
Materials are the biggest concern, would really love to get my hands on some sort of design :-(.
Carefull on that scotland thing. Dana said in the post fight press conference from UFC 64 that their UK office was open, and they were having 3 (i think) events over there this year. If that's the case, they may have already applied for the rights to use the shape over there as well. You might want to talk to your barrister before building an octagon.
I googled buying a boxing ring and found a couple sites that talked about the construction of a boxing ring. I'm sure you could adapt that to a cage without too much in the way of problems.
