I have heard talk of this before but in watching 103 the other night I noticed many times fighters slipping, or almost slipping and it altering their moves so I am wondering if anyone who's fought in the UFC Octagon vs. other mats could comment. It seems to be a pretty big problem especially for guys who throw kicks or employ a lot of movement on the feet.
Or we could just go to the kind of cage from that video of Butterbean's last fight where they intentionally wet it down!
ttt
ttt for some answers from Lawler or Hague or anyone else who has fought in the UFC before.
I don't know if the Octagon mat is any different than the canvas used by the PKA back in the day and I never had any problems with slipping, but I don't know what kind of material they use now.
I wonder if the logos have any effect either as they might be a different material. TTT for answers.
generally those logo's are the slippery part. you hear the same complaint in boxing
i dont know if its legal or not but some guys put hairspray on their feet to give them better grip
I wonder if you can wear some sort of sock in the UFC. I would think if you can tape your feet you should be able to do this. If not just have your ankle wrapped and spray some stickum on the bottom.
I'm sure I sound like an idiot...
The mat surface sucks, and it is a real problem. definitely the worst surface I've fought on.

Fighters in interviews say the logos are the best part for traction, but they are abrasive if your backs on them.
