And it's a very bad situation for mma fans - and for mma fighters who have not and will not want to deal with the Zuffa/Dan White "we own you" arrogance and attitude about money, when, where, and who you fight, how often, and the fact that they can't do anything else while under contract with the UFC. (One of the biggest reasons why Fedor wouldn't sign is because he always participates a few times a year in the Russian sambo tournaments - and UFC said no way to that - as well as the lack of reasonable money they were offering for the best mma fighter on the planet at that time).
And Barnett left years ago because he wasn't being offered enough money - and then - AND ONLY THEN - was his steroid tests released...(and no other fighter's - just his).
And the fans will get screwed because there's no more competition to keep Zuffa honest (just imagine what the STRIKEFORCE heavyweight Grand Prix would have forced UFC to do in order to keep up - and how much money they would have had to spend to do it, ie.- solid fights with top contenders on EVERY single card - which they won't have to do now)...
and the fans will get screwed without legitimate competition in the in-person prices they'll have to pay - and for ppv.
So what this amounted to was a 1980's style hostile takeover in order to destroy competition. ZUFFA/UFC will gut the STRIKEFORCE organization, take a few of it's fighters who are willing to play ball, release all the others - and liquidate all other STRIKEFORCE assets.
Monopoly really sucks.

I agree with this thread. Between this, the JMMA troubles, and Bellator's seeming inability to build and retain talent, the face of MMA is looking like a death mask.

If they just merged the two companies it would be amazing, but the way things are right now with two separate companies still is the worst possible scenarios for everyone involved.

The need for a fighters union and for anti-trust lawyers to bring a case against ZUFFA is now paramount.
Or else mma as a fighting sport will go the way of professional wrestling.
Legitimate competition is what keeps things honest and fresh.
I hope some outspoken and top notch fighters with balls and a sense of political savvy - both past and present - start speaking out about this.

I don't agree with the whole sentiment this is bad for fans. I think this is DOPE for fans! We get to see all the best fighters in one super league (eventually). What, exactly, is bad about that?
The only reason Fedor never signed with the ufc was co promotion. They offered him more money and caved on the sambo tournements.
You will NOT get to see the best fighters in one super league eventually.
Because ZUFFA/Dana White will never be willing to pay ALL these guys what they're worth - so lots of these guys will either be released or not sign with the UFC at all.
And the co-promotion is what would have guaranteed Fedor that he would always have been paid what he was truly worth - which is why his management insisted upon it, and which is why ZUFFA/Dana White was DEAD SET AGAINST IT.
When they realized that they would never be able to stop him from fighting in sambo tournaments they offered A LITTLE MORE money than they were previously - but with clauses that would have given them complete control of Fedor's PROFESSIONAL career (as opposed to sambo - which is amateur)...
and it was that "control" that would have meant that they would have screwed him sooner or later on money, and would have been in a position to dicate VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING about when, where, how often, and with who he would fight - and of course - for how much ($).
THAT'S WHY MMA FIGHTERS NEED TO UNIONIZE RIGHT AWAY.
Because now ZUFFA/Dana White are in a position to squeeeze everybody to their self-serving will.
