Officials: Girl accidentally kills gun instructor

DOLAN SPRINGS, Ariz. (AP) — A 9-year-old girl accidentally killed an Arizona shooting instructor as he was showing her how to use an automatic Uzi, authorities said Tuesday.

Charles Vacca, 39, of Lake Havasu City, died Monday shortly after being airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Mohave County sheriff's officials said.

Vacca was standing next to the girl at the Last Stop outdoor shooting range in White Hills when she pulled the trigger and the recoil sent the gun over her head, investigators said.

Authorities said the girl was at the shooting range with her parents. Her name was not released.

A woman who answered the phone at the shooting range said it had no comment. She did not provide her name.

It is not known if the range had an age limit on shooting or if the girl was going through a safety class.

Ronald Scott, a Phoenix-based firearms safety expert, said most shooting ranges have an age limit and strict safety rules when teaching children to shoot. He said instructors usually have their hands on guns when children are firing high-powered weapons.

"You can't give a 9-year-old an Uzi and expect her to control it," Scott said.

My god, the stupidity.

Anyone letting a 9 year old shoot a god damn uzi needs to have their head checked.

Jesus fuck.  Did anyone think this might not be a good idea?

Voted up

I feel bad for the little girl. I definitely don't feel bad for the guy who got himself lit up. What a fucking moron.

When I take my friends shooting. Especially ones that have never been or ones who went a very long time ago. I always load just one round into the mag/chamber. Just so I can see how they handle the recoil.

If it shocks them and they jerk the gun it's empty/locked back. If they handle it fine I load the magazine regularly.

This isn't even a 9 year old kid problem although it probably didn't help. I have seen grown ups get handed a full auto and luckily the person watching them had their hand over the barrel to prevent it from rising. Phone Post

That's some quality parenting right there.

BOOM. I call it the "Barney Fife" method of firearms instruction.

Holy shit! Why on earth would a 9 yr old girl need to learn anything about an uzi? Phone Post 3.0

Teaching a 9 year old to shoot an Uzi. Somehow I'm not surprised by the results.

The recoil on an uzi is impressive. Its enough to make a grown man have to concentrate on keeping it down. Why in the fuck a dad thought it'd be a good idea to hand one to his 9yr old girl is beyond me... Phone Post 3.0

The real tragedy here is that the little girl is going to live the rest of her life knowing that she killed a man, and it's all because her moron parents and that moron instructor.

the rest of the world laughs (and cries) at our gun crazed culture Phone Post 3.0
