OG Dads - Re : Ear Infections

Blue please - http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=keoUyFbfNnQ

I have not tried this yet, just saw it today, and I'm curious what other OG dads think.

Please ignore her mispronouncing antibiotics, I'm interested in the technique, not her grammar.

Please also read the comments to the video, seems to have worked for some people.

I have a video otoscope, so I'll be able to monitor changes, if I do try this.

Any of your kids had ear infections ?

Did you get tubes put in ?

Did antibiotics help ?

What worked for you ?

My son had alot of ear aches so we had the tubes put n. Glad we did it They did make a big difference. Phone Post 3.0

I'm 28 and still have tubes. It sucks but it's better than the alternative. Antibiotic of choice is amoxiclav orally and cipro drops in ear Phone Post 3.0

Yes grommets for glue ear / MEI helped in my experience. Phone Post 3.0

Thacommish - I had the 3 pairs of tubes put in, and a bunch of antibiotics, it sucks i loved to swim and that shit just brought it on, but i eventually outgrew it at like 15-16 i think.

Iuno about that technique in that vid, when mine got infected i was up all night with my head on a heating pad just fucking in pain. At that point its antibiotics or bust. Id say what she does would probably work best before its full blown infected and you just have that water stuck in your ear shit

I still got my hearing after 3 sets of tubes, some scar tissue and fairly certain the 2nd set was fucked up in some way, they actually did it while the OJ verdict was being read.

But hey man after like 15 or 16 aside from me getting strep throat like 5 times and getting antiobotics for it i really havnt needed or had any since, and no more ear problems.

Sorry for the frat and dont know if any of that is useful but if you got any questions i might be able to help

Are you me? Phone Post 3.0

Thank you Kosmo, voted up.

Thanks to everybody that's responded, really appreciate it.

Negative or positive, I'd like to know as much as possible about this.

At the moment, dr says it's just a little fluid behind the drum.

All 3 of my kids had tubes; they went from ear infections every other week to 0. Phone Post 3.0

Eggbert - I had bad infections as a kid and had tubes put in. Apparently it worked very well Phone Post 3.0
Same here. Had tubes as a kid and outgrew the infections. My daughter had 2 sets of tubes. She seems to have finally gotten past the infections. Phone Post 3.0

Dr explaining ear infections - http://youtu.be/2lbODZYg8zs

i still get ear infections regularly. Ive noticed I get them a lot after I smoked a bunch of weed several days in a row.

Son had them really bad. Tubes by 10 months old and it was an immediate improvement.

One didn't fall out and had to be removed which cost me. Worth it though. Phone Post 3.0

What Causes an Ear Infection?
Ear infections occur when one of your Eustachian tubes becomes swollen or blocked and fluid builds up in your middle ear. Eustachian tubes are small tubes that run from each ear directly to the back of the throat. The causes of Eustachian tube blockage include:

allergies
colds
sinus infections
excess mucus
tobacco smoking
infected or swollen adenoids (tissue near your tonsils that trap harmful bacteria and viruses)

I made it into my 40's without any ear problems ever, then got bitch-slapped with them.

Finally had an ENT give me a bottle of 50/50 alcohol/white vinegar, and another with baby oil. Do the 50/50 in the morning, and the oil at night.

For like 2 seconds, I thought a bitch slapped you, and you got an ear infection

I used to clean my ear with hydrogen peroxide then just put warm olive oil in it. That usually helped the healing process but it wasn't a quick remedy that's for sure. I usually just toughed it out.

The more you get then as a child the more prone to them you become Phone Post 3.0

The main reason kids get them so much is because those tubes aren't fully formed. In a lot of kids, where the tube from each ear meets is horizontal (basically, level with the ground). In adults, its much more vertical, so fluid/mucus can drain easily.

So in kids w/o fully formed Eustachian tubes, that mucus doesn't drain easily...which makes it a perfect breeding ground for bacteria; its moist, warm, and dark. Phone Post 3.0

My son was born 8 weeks premature and had serious breathing issues. He also got ear infections more than once a month. Literally when he came off antibiotics he would get another ear infection within a week.

His pediatrician wanted to put tubes in, but I was at his lung specialist and he said he could fix the ear infections without tubes.

He prescribed pepcid AC. He said it was caused because of acid reflux, my son being a premie hadn't yet developed his stomach flap well enough to keep down the acid.

My son never got another ear infection again.

I told that to a friend of mine who had a similar situation with their kid. They asked the Dr. about it, and he said he'd never heard that, but it wouldn't hurt try. His daughter never got anther ear infection either.

sub for later.

My son had bad ear infections one after the other. He got tubes and never had another one. Ignore this chick and get tubes. They're a lifesaver
