OG/UG giffers? Wtf???????

I have made my gifs by screen capture (gifcam or LICEcap) or just download someone else's gif on the interwebs.
 
From there I altered it in Photoshop.
 
But now I can't seem to open gifs as layers in Photoshop.  It's just a weird string of a picture in a single layer that you can't do shit with.
 
WHAT TO DO?

I use Paint and Ulead Gif Animator 5. Don't know PS.
