OG Water Fast Challenge - The Not Breakfast Club

Yes, correct. You might be eating too much protein and they get converted to carbs when eaten in large quantities (gluconeogenesis for you nerds).

My preferred meal for keto is a green salad with lettuce, peppers, spinach, celeri, avocado, olive oil and salmon.

Eat that 3x per day.

That’ll do the trick

That sucks, are you calling it and moving on to phase 2?

I’m not sure yet, just going to play it by ear with how I am feeling the next 2 days. I wasn’t that surprised by the final weight.

Yesterday was in the high 90’s and I was slamming the electrolytes and fluids all day long cause I was sweating balls at work. I hopped on the scale last night when I got home and I was around 217. I knew there was no way I was dropping all those fluids over night. Did get close though.

Yeah, so it was probably lower, with you being close and having lost so much and all you did for so long, a break may do you good, move on to your next plan, then after dropping some more weight with yoyr new lifestyle, then hit a big fast and get to your high school weight, Polk High alumni i assume?

I made a good call on the being ready to move out the boy from school. 4 flights of stairs and almost 90 here too!

May do some 3 day the bext few weeks. Probably wont track here, would like to start up again first week in june and have a decent starting weight

GENERAL RULES FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO JOIN - by mataleo1 :

-Before fasting: try cutting carbs to a minimum 48h before fasting, it’ll make fasting easier.
-Here what is allowed: water, tea, coffee.
-No need for supplements or vitamins or anything the first 2 weeks. If you sweat a lot, you can use a small cup of broth every day.
-The first 3 days are the WORST. Be prepared. But if you can make through this, it’s really easy afterwards. Neither Stache nor I have had problems with hunger or cravings after day 3.
-Do not exercise the first 3 days, as your body is transitioning from sugar to fat as energy source.

UPDATE

In the interest of providing guidelines here, and to make this simple and generalizable for everyone, here goes. I’m also going to take a more conservative approach than previously because it’s summertime and some will sweat and exercise, and I’d rather suggest taking more than less. I looked everything up and confirmed with the Jason Fung book. I personally fasted for 9 days with a little milk and no added sodium.

Do not do it if you’re pregnant or a diabetic on insulin.

Fast = MAX 14 days. You could do it longer but you would need extra coaching and additional info.

1st week: no food, just water (2-3 L per day). Coffee and tea are allowed.

IF: you exercise, work outside, take blood pressure pills, add 1gm of sodium per day

2nd week: no food, water (2-3 L per day). Coffee and tea are allowed. Preferably, especially if you exercise, you also need: sodium (1-2g per day), potassium (1-2g per day), magnesium (2-300mg per day). Salted homemade bone broth will do the trick (use sea salt). Or Oxo with K / Mg supplements.

Again, this is likely overkill for a 14 day fast, but it won’t interrupt the fast or the fat burning and will make it more palatable.

Simply put:
-It works: you’ll lose 4-6 lbs per week (more the first week because of excess water losses)
-It’s remarkably easy after the 3rd day
-It’s cheap (obviously)

Those who embark, it would be awesome if you could post:
-Daily weight
-Blood pressure (if you have high BP)
-Waist circumference
-Symptoms

Would you consider taking a break for a couple of weeks or so to reset your metabolism? I’m amazed you’ve been losing weight for this long but I’d imagine this plateau was inevitable.

It’s kind of what I am thinking right now. I have a lot of stuff coming up this week and the break would be beneficial in many ways. I’m gonna see how I feel in the morning.

Interested to see if you start getting the same results after a break. I just stopped a two-day fast a day early because I was feeling really drained. It was my fifth consecutive one (doing them weekly). I’m either going to take a break or just do one day per week.

Do you not have any issues with the re-feeding after so many days fasting? Do you start with a juice and quickly move to solids? The two times I did an “extended” fast, which were 5 and 6 days long, I jumped straight back into solids and noticed that my stomach felt blocked.

No issues, I just jump right in as soon as I get off the scale. Usually just some yogurt, berries and granola, will have some again around noon and then eat regular dinner. I don’t eat the yogurt for probiotics or anything, I just love the taste of vanilla yogurt and berries.
