Ohio creating 225lbs Cruiserweight Division

At a recent show at which I fought the commission guys were saying that they would be creating the 225lb amature division this spring/summer. This makes sense for amatures. Ohio has the best athletic commision and I'm wondering if this could catch on.

I like it. A big difference between a 205'er and a guy that cuts to 265.

235

Stupid.

Now you have..

265+
225-265
205-225

Will just make it harder to make fights.

That means a 220lb'er can't fight a 240lb'er.

Not stupid. Good idea.

More weight classes on the amateur level can and will always be a good idea.

Less 230ish pounders cutting to 205, less freak show weight differences.

On the amateur level safety should always be the #1 concern for the fighters.

meh

I've always be a supporter of a cruiser weight class.

I think it should be at 235, to split the current HW in equal half.

I agree, they should make it 235... at the same time tho, i'd miss seeing smaller guys like Couture whoop up on bigger dudes like Tim Sylvia.

Bernie knows exactly what he is doing. Guy is kind of a hero of mine.

Thats why they have the 205 weight class

Everybody fighting in this divison will be able to fight at 205 too

If there were a ton of really heavy heavyweights and medium heavyweights, I'd be more for this.  With that being said Cain, Fedor, Dos Santos, being cruiser weights would suck, because they CAN beat the 265ers.  If you are on the lighter side of the heavyweight division, you really should be able to cut to 205 by training and taking off muscle if you are really having problems with the heavier heavys.

This is the only division split that needs to be made.

Good call, theres always been too big of a gap in the HW div so I like the fact that they are closing the gap a bit more

can we get that mma lawyer from ohio on here to comment on the legality of this?

You lost me at "Ohio has the best athletic commission". Lol.

I've thought about this for awhile and believe it is a good idea, mainly for the fact that I think it is stupid to have a cap on the HW division. There are not many talented guys over the 265 range, but that shouldn't prevent them from being in UFC cuz they are too big. Guys like Lesnar, Carwin, Big Foot Silva, etc don't have to worry about trimming down and cutting weight.
