Oliveira, Gillespie, Taisumov, Makhachev

Oliveira striking in his last 2 fights, looks like its gone up another level.

Khabib vs Poirier is now official for Abu Dhabi. MMA Team Dagestan on twitter has said Taisumov and Makhachev are likely on the card.

Actually Taisumov said on twitter he has an opponent and a signed contract for Abu Dhabi. Hopefully some worthy of fighting him on a 6 fight win streak but we will see.

Four lightweights on long winning streaks will be in action at UFC 242.

Officials announced Friday that Islam Makhachev will fight Davi Ramos, and Mairbek Taisumov will fight Diego Ferreira at the UFC's Sept. 7 pay-per-view in Abu Dhabi.

Makhachev (17-1), a native of Russia, has won five straight fights, a stretch dating back to Oct. 3, 2015. In his last outing, he defeated newcomer Arman Tsarukyan by unanimous decision at UFC Saint Petersburg in April. His current run also includes a 57-second KO win over Gleison Tibau.

He'll be facing Ramos (11-2), a grappling specialist who has seen his hand raised in his last four bouts. He most recently defeated Austin Hubbard by unanimous decision at UFC Rochester in May.

Russia's Taisumov (27-5) last fought in Moscow in September, where he defeated Desmond Green by unanimous decision to record his sixth straight win. Prior to outpointing Green, Taisumov had knocked out his last five opponents.

This will be Taisumov's first in-cage appearance since resolving a six-month USADA suspension.

Ferreira (15-2) is coming off of a unanimous decision win over Rustam Khabilov at UFC Prague in February. He has won four straight fights. Ferreira was supposed to fight Francisco Trinaldo at UFC 237, but was forced out of the contest when officials ruled that he was medically unfit to compete after it was discovered that Ferreira had kidney stones.

Islam is ranked #14 and facing yet another unranked fighter.

Taisumov is on a six fight win streak will be fighting yet another unranked fighter.

This whole thing of winning five or six in a row and not getting a ranked fighter does not happen all that often in the UFC but it does in these deep, deep divisions.

Two good fights though.

There is so many great fighters in the 155lbs division.

Glad to see Gillespie getting the big fight in two days.

BJ Penn ForeverĀ -Ā Glad to see Gillespie getting the big fight in two days.

Gillespie will get his first loss this weekendā€¦I think people will be surprised how ineffective Gillespies wrestling is against Lee

Conor, Gaethje,Cowboy, Felder....

Ā

Tough roads ahead for all

I think gillespies pressure might force Kevin to gas. He comes out of the gate strong and usually fades. But, training at tri star may well have corrected this flaw in his game.

Brutal loss for Gillespie.

Taisumov and Gillespie just had great win streaks snapped. Will be interesting to see what is next for both of them.

Santos, Oliveira, Ferreira, Makhachev have their win streaks intact.

Oliveira is fighting Jared Gordon (the 51st ranked UFC LW) in two weeks. Does nothing for his career. Too bad.

Greco world and Olympic champ Mark Madsen just debuted and won quick in his UFC debut. Lets see if he gets a step up in comp in his next fight.

Dan Hooker, Alexander Hernandez, Felder, Khabiloov, Teymur, Klose and Tsarukyan are all 4-1 in their last 5 and in a position for a big fight, especially Hooker and Felder.

2020 should be really exciting and competitive in this division with all that is going on with the top 30 LWs.

This thread was made three years ago and we are still waiting for Makachev and Gillespie to get big fights. Yeah Gillespie got one or twoā€¦ went 1-1 but now Iā€™ve heard he has turned down a Tsarukyan fight and that was his ticket to a fight with the top five.

Not Makhachevā€™s fault Dariush pulled out.

Taisumov fell off the map.

We have seen what Oliveira is capable ofā€¦and then some.

Told you it was bullshit that Diaz, Pettis, Cowboy etcā€¦ were getting the big fights and that it was time for Oliveira, Gillespie and Makhachev to make their run. Unpredictable sport but I still called it to a T.

Did Taisumov retire? If so was it due to injury or visa issues? Anyone know?

It seems like once these fighters get into the top 5 they rarely fight. Iā€™m not sure if this is due to training or them waiting for the right fight, but I feel like some of these divisions are stacked with prime talent but there is no movement.

Heā€™s fighting in ACB no? Regardless what a waste by the UFC. Guy was fucking talentedā€¦

Nope, not fighting in ACA. Has not had a fight since he lost to Ferriera in 2019. Crazy for a 7-2 UFC fighter to just go away when they are just thirty years old. Has had to of just had huge visa or injury problems.

Welp, Oliveiraā€™s 5 fight streak has turned into 11 and he is the unofficial champ.
Makhachev 3 fight win streak has turned into 10 and he is finally getting a big fight.

It took a few years and longer than it should have but here we are, Oliveira vs Makhachev for the title. 10-0 vs 11-0.

Best title fight of the year IMO.
