Having watched by replay over 3 hrs everyday the fact that sacrifice throws, kata garuma and morote gari have dominated the mens judo is unbelievable to me. Especially the 100K mongolian who wasn't even thrown except by the N. Korean just out of bounds. And the fact he wasn't thrown. And very little submission/pins. And how many matches went the full 5 min without ippons is new also. The women was dominated by traditional judo though. Will this change men's judo in the future?
Things to be in trends and cycle back to previous trends.
kataguruma and morote gari are as old and traditional as there is in judo... its just the fact that it wasnt the japanese who popularized them in contest judo that makes them non-traditional...
hmph... kinda bigoted when you think about it. drop seio is fine because a japanese guy came up with it. yet drop kataguruma isnt because a russian did.
do you smell that?
yes we did Josh. You didn't wash your gi again you dirty gaijin!
Josh, NO reference to who developed what. It is just these Olympics had so many unexpected results. Many of the top ranked men players didn't make it to the medal rounds. And the unusual styles that that were more dominant vs traditional styles in the mens category. the women still resemble traditional judo.
