One Roundhouse Kick Tip

Hey all! Hope you are treating life well!

I've got a series of striking tutorials coming out in May, one every day. I've put this one out early to get a little feedback, it's not perfectly edited but has subtitles (very fancy). Each video has an explanation of the technique / combination / workout / tip, followed by a demonstration. My intention is that some people will learn new things, and others will get a reminder of old drills to try again.

subbed for later when I have speakers..

Thanks again Lee & VTFU

Thanks John!

Hope you like it Rick and thanks man :) I've added subtitles to my new vids now, to help out the hard of hearing, and non-native northern English speakers ;D

VU..

Where are you training? A round tree house or something? Windows only on the floor..?

I want one.

Triple vote up! Keep 'em comin',Lee!

I don't know if I can handle all of that information. Maybe start with the basics and break it down into less complicated tutorials? I wouldn't mind one on standing

"Ok guys. Today I'm going to give you a tip about standing upright. Use both feet, just like this. Ok guys remember to subscribe." Phone Post 3.0

I watch every one of these btw. Just giving you a hard time ;) Phone Post 3.0

Nice one Racer! Much, much more to come from me, my friend!

Shoot - it's up on the 3rd floor of an old town building, it's a lot of steps and very emotional after leg workouts. It kicks ass though!

PD - LOL, with the state of some striking I see on YouTube I think that would actually be a helpful guide. I'll give you a shout out if I end up doing it! ;P

Cheers glock, hope you're well mate!

LOL @ "very emotional after leg workouts".

When I was doing hard workouts for kickboxing I had a job installing alarm systems. Climbing ladders all day after heavy leg workouts was dismal.

I see a few fundamental flaws in the video but im assuming its more for beginners ya?

So no worries brother. Keep on truckin Phone Post 3.0

Lol Racer, it's gotta be good for the soul at least ;P

Yo Sultan! This series is aimed at beginners / intermediate, but anyone will benefit from seeing a drill they haven't done in a while. Feel free to point out anything you think is flawed, it lets me know what people are thinking, so I can improve my videos for the future.

The biggest things I would change are, improving the audio and bringing in my own lighting. Both of which I'll have in a few months time.

The main things are the timing.

1) There is a hesitation before you throw the high kick. Sometimes we teach breaking up the rhythm intentionally but it is specifically stated and the series is geared towards this type of variation. Here it just looked like the timing was off. When you are throwing a combination to a neck or head kick, it should be smooth throughout.

2) I didnt see a set up before the Angling off meaning, a pass or a stifling of the opponents return fire. This way just assumes the guy wouldn't return fire. I like to bump, push or disrupt the opponents balance so i can throw the head kick with authority and not worry about being countered. You seem to be wide open for the left hook counter.

3) i didn't hear any specific punch combination discussed or any ideas on what kinds of punches work well with this kind kick. Ie.....this pairs very well with a slap hook punch on the end combo before the kick. If this is for beginners i would definitely go in to those details. This leaves too much open to interpretation and assumes the viewer knows what they are doing which is obviously not the case.

Just some ideas but i definitely applaud your enthusiasm and desire to teach. Keep up the great work. Phone Post 3.0

I agree with those points being important, but they aren't the focus of this particular clip.

Nice work.

Ya but you cant really teach stepping off for a high roundhouse kick but not talk about setting up the step off and not talk about the punches etc. It just doesn't make sense.

Just feels like there is a lot missing here and a lot of assumptions are being made in all honesty.

I hope you do not view this as a slight in any way.....You asked for some criticism so i hope im not coming across as rude or disrespectful. Im just giving an honest assessment.

Don't worry bro, I respect your feedback now and in the past! :) Friends like you really do make it much easier to improve my videos!

The whole point of this drill is to just get someone used to throwing shots then moving off to kick from another angle. It doesn't have to be a head kick I'm just a flexible and toight like toiger ;P

You are absolutely right though, the points you make are essential, it just gets to the point where there is so much to teach that videos can get congested with too much info. It's why I'm playing around with this month of videos, each focusing on doing just one thing, and building on that knowledge.

After this month I'll be releasing two videos a week, one going deeper onto technique and covering more ground, and the other a combination or demonstration to inspire some bagwork etc!
