One thing is for sure.

Before all this blew up I had never even heard of Hoelzer Reich,

Now their name is firmly planted within my brain.

Successful advertising if you ask me.

Yep, it's known as viral marketing. The likes of hmeboy and fortheloveofMMA were obviously hired by HR to build brand awareness here on the UG. They've done an amazing job too.

If this is an attempt to  insult Lyle BeerBohm it's pretty low. He had hard times, payed his debt and moved on. He is one of the best fighters in the world, a good man, and has never shown any indicators of racism to me. I am Native American and he never had a problem with me.

they are making a killing off of all these haters on here thats for sure.

they sponsor a black fighter and hes like 2nd on the list of their sponsored fighters on both their myspace and website. they also have a banner add for some fitness company that has a blackguy and a white guy standing in front of some gym equipment. If they were nazis do you really think they would do any of that?

You probably didn't do well in business class. Generally you want people to BUY your product, instead of spending your time explaining how you and your product are not racist.

Yeah, its a good cover. Why do you think gay men get married to women? If they weren't straight, do you really think they would do that?

There is no such thing as bad publicity,
ask Paris Hilton

It is definitely good publicity in the short run. If the uproar causes HR to be banned from the UFC and pulled out of retail outlets, which I don't think is likely but I wouldn't rule out, then it isn't good publicity.

I don't care for HR clothing just because I don't like the artwork.  With that being said, I didn't see any symbols on their clothing that should be considered neo-nazi, such as swastikas (which are still widely used asian and indian religious symbols) or SS symbols.  I don't know what the people at HR really believe or what they support.  I'm just going by what info is available.  I looked up a couple of things which are pasted below.  Just some food for thought.  I apologize in advance for the length of this post.  I know how most UGers hate to read. :)

Reich

<!-- start content -->

Reich (pronounced /?ra?k/; German: [??a?ç]  ( listen)) is a German loanword cognate with the English reign, but used most often to designate an empire, realm, or nation. The qualitative connotation from the German is "(imperial,) sovereign state." It is also cognate with the Latin word regnum (kingdom) and the Scandinavian rike/rige, Dutch: rijk, Sanskrit: raj, English: -ric; as found in bishopric. It is the word traditionally used for a variety of sovereign entities, including Germany in many periods of its history. It is also found in the compound Königreich, "kingdom" (Königtum), and in the country names Frankreich (France), Österreich (Austria, the "Eastern Realm"), Sverige (Sweden, the "Realm of the Swedes") and in England as Surrey - Suthrige, 'southern realm'. The German version of the Lord's Prayer uses the words Dein Reich komme for "?λθ?τω ? βασιλε?α σου" (usually translated as "thy kingdom come" in English), and the Lord's Prayer in Scandinavian also uses the cognate word; so it is in Old English - 'Tobecyme thin rice'.

Like its Latin counterpart, imperium, Reich does not necessarily connote a monarchy; the Weimar Republic and Nazi Germany continued to use the name Deutsches Reich while being republican in structure.

Used adjectivally, reich is the German word for "rich".

 Continued

-Possible negative connotations in modern use-

A number of previously neutral words used by the Nazis have later taken on negative connotations in German (e.g. Führer or Heil); while in many contexts Reich is not one of them (reich, rich; Frankreich, France), it can imply German imperialism or strong nationalism if it is used to describe a political or governmental entity. Reich has thus not been used in official terminology since 1945, though it is still found in the name of the Reichstag building, which since 1999 has housed the German federal parliament, the Bundestag. The decision not to rename the Reichstag building was taken only after long debate in the Bundestag; even then, it is described officially as Reichstag - Sitz des Bundestages (Reichstag, seat of the Bundestag). As seen in this example, the term "Bund" (federation) has replaced "Reich" in the names of various state institutions such as the army ("Bundeswehr").

Iron Cross

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Iron Cross (German: About this sound Eisernes Kreuz ) was a military decoration of the Kingdom of Prussia, and later of Germany, which was established by King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia and first awarded on 10 March 1813 in Breslau. In addition to during the Napoleonic Wars, the Iron Cross was awarded during the Franco-German War, the First World War, and the Second World War.

The Iron Cross was normally a military decoration only, though there were instances of it being awarded to civilians for performing military functions. Two examples, the civilian pilot Hanna Reitsch was awarded the Iron Cross First Class for her bravery as a test pilot during the Second World War and Melitta Schiller (also a German female test pilot) was awarded the Iron Cross Second Class.

The Iron Cross was also used as the symbol of the German Army from 1871 to 1915, when it was replaced by a simpler Greek cross. In 1956, the Iron Cross became the symbol of the Bundeswehr, the German armed forces. The traditional design is black and this design is used on armored vehicles and aircraft. A newer design in blue and silver is used as the emblem in other contexts.

Hoelzer Reich and its owners are nazi sympathizers.  They will eventually get what is coming to them, if you try to profit off of nazi imagery, that karma is going to come back around full steam.

inf0, those military helmets and caps were in use well before the rise of Hitler and the Nazi party.  I understand that most people associate those things with Nazi Germany, but when they stand alone they are not inately Nazi or racist, just another military uniform.  Just because HR replaced swastikas with their logo doesn't mean that they are Nazis or promoting the same ideals.  More than likely, it's just a lack of creativity.  I did look again at the logo you mentioned, and I can see how combining the H and the R using that type of font bears resemblance to a swastika.  It could be an artistic aneurism, or it could have deeper meaning, even if just for the creator.  As I said before, I don't know any of the HR execs, etc, so I can't speak about what they believe, only what I see on their website.

 Here we foking go again...

Hus -  Hoelzer Reich and its owners are nazi sympathizers.  They will eventually get what is coming to them, if you try to profit off of nazi imagery, that karma is going to come back around full steam.

If they are sympathizers, or neo-nazis, then karma will indeed come full circle and their deeds will be punished.  My point is that unless someone knows them well enough to say yes or no to that question then all we have is speculation, and from a historical view I don't want to see the wrong words or symbols cited as being Nazi.

inf0 just said it in two pictures.  If you support Hoelzer Reich, you are a racist, or a nazi apologist/sympathizer, which is not any better.

inf0 -  lol.. too many coincidences to chalk it up to a lack of creativity..

If you have to try that hard to defend something.. my question is why bother?

I didn't start posting on this thread as a defense for anyone, only to shed a little historical light on a few things.  Now I'm involved in this debate with you over HR's affiliation with Nazis.  Hitler himself took the swastika from Hindu religion and turned it into the symbol that is vilified today.  The Iron Cross, once a prestigious award, is now seen as a negative symbol along with German military uniforms and the word Reich.  Without the stigma of WWII those symbols would be as neutral today as they were over 70 years ago.  Neo-nazis still use these symbols today, which keeps the atrocities of WWII in our minds and makes us shun these symbols.  Does HR go too far by using the totenkopf and the rune S along with these other symbols?  Sure they do, and as I said to Hus, if they are nazis then karma will come for them, but does anyone here know for sure that this is what they are?  Has anyone here worked with them or for them that can verify a nazi affiliation?  Until we know this all we are doing is speculating based on the imagery they use, which doesn't paint a favorable picture.
