I had an opportunity to compete in last year's Oneida event. I'm sure some things could have been more organized, but it didn't affect the overall show whatsoever. Crowd was awesome and well mannered. Medics were on hand and ready to assist. The head of the commission was there overseeing all the details. And I wasn't arrested before or after the event despite being told I would be. Anybody thinking this is a ahady event needs to put their money where their mouth is and attend on the 25th so they can give an honest review. You'll be pretty impressed I think...
strik I was there as well. The dr looked at the fighters for about 1 min.Basically took there blood pressure. No Blood work was required, cat scans or eeg's.Yes there were Medics there but who was the head of the commission(what commission and what qualifications to be the head) and with him there what did that accomplish.
I will say the fights were stopped if anything prematurely which was good. The show overall was good. However no fighter weighed in before the fights and the matchmakeing was horendus.I was talking to the guy that was to fight monkey about where he trained and what he was good at.He told me he doesn't even belong to a club and mostly works out on the heavy bag in his basement...You guys already know what monkey's qualifications are. There were quite a few matchups like this. One guy just got out of jail and figured he would give it a try.The guy that fought Monkey almost had his arm broken.Never saw him again so can't say for sure.
Any ways that was my perspective of both the good and bad of it.I had a great time but I haven't been to an mma event where I didn't.
As far as putting you're money where you're mouth is that's one thing. The possibility of getting a criminal record that's another.
I'm going with about 5 buddies so I am supporting it but man I'm a little nervous this time as Hayashi is well aware of it and last time he didn't really know about it till after.
"The possibility of getting a criminal record that's another."
I think it is unlikely that merely attending such an event could expose one to charges that fall under the criminal code of Canada, but not being a lawyer, it would be interesting to hear a lawyer's (Magnus?) opinion on this possibility.
From what I remember when they were going to do this on a reserve outside of Hamiliton he said that attending the event could result in charges.
Something like a cockfight(maybe bad choice of words) even though the roosters are doing the fighting the spectators can be charged.
Heh heh heh... you said "Cockfight."
should be a very telling weekend.. i personally dont see anyone stopping the show given the poliical landscape right now with natives rights issues it would be a PR disaster and quite possibly impossible for OAC officers to step into native land and tell them what can and cant happen sports wise.. seriously if the natoves can block all major highways and railroads without a police officer even coming close then which ever officer goes onto a reserve to stop a sporting event has my vote for a 200 percent pay raise
The truth is the OPP are not able to set foot on "Native" land unless they are requested to and or given permission by the band council to do so.
Actually Barry I believe you are wrong. The police can go on to the reserve they just have to give notice that they are going to enter the reserve.
I'm with Claude on this one though. With all the incidents of the past regarding land claims and the protests the natives have put up with being able to block highways and such I think the only way the Police will stop this is by seting up roadblocks to the entrances of the reserve thus not allowing fighters and spectators who are not already on the reserve to not enter.
Also a quick point if this is the commission that represents Ontario would everybody be happy with it.For example Antico's people are the people that I would like to oversee MMA in Ontario. They are very respected among the MMA community or would we be able to change them to the people that the MMA comunity would want??
I'm suprised Wiley never said anything..
My prediction...Undercover cop gets the names of all the fighters and charges them and the promoter under sec 83.There is no way they are sending a marked car or cars onto the reserve. Also a possible road block set up stopping spectators from entering.
I hope it's not true but something has to happen knowing Hayashi has been this active.

Perhaps Todd you should do a little research before you post comments. You may want to know who really is the commissioner before you offer your opinion. Also in my observations so far you have not mentioned that you actually participated in the first show.
A mutual friend of ours who is native mentioned to me that if you're not happy with the commission you should go before the band council to voice you opinion.Questioning their decision on here won't do you any good if you really care that much.
Just thought I'd let you know.
Somebody told me you were on the commission??
Bottom line that is the bands councils appointed commission. It's there reserve they can appoint anyone they want.My question was if this commission goes thru and makes mma legal is this the commission that everybody would want. Don't try twisting things.

After all these years of pleading, begging and petitioning for legal MMA in Ont., this commission comes along and sets a precedence for legal MMA, you would reject this commission based on personal bias? Furthermore, without even knowing WHO the members are that form the commission.
That makes sense!
OK dumbass that's you Barry just in case you couldn't figure it out.
My question was simple.Would you want the the same commission that is overseeing the mma event held on the reserve to be the commission for ontario,
Yeah you're right I don't know who is on that commission and just because they are the commission on the reserve doesn't exactlly make them good or bad. Also the only reason they are able to get a commission is because it is an event held on the reserve.Do I respect them for haveing the balls to do it...absolutely.
However this doesn't necessarilly mean they will be a good commission for Ontario. For example they require no tests to fight ie cat scan, eeg, physical or blood work in order to fight. That right there scares me.All I know is I have been following the legalization of MMA in Ontario quite closely and if I had a say or vote I would like Antico's group to be part of that commission.
Unfortunatelly other non-native people don't have the same right to stage such an event on the reserve. So to say this commission is good based on the fact they have different rights to be able to set up this commission doesn't mean they are in it for the good of mma or just to capatilize on makeing some cash.
I already know you have you're tounge up Alberts ass to try and get your name on that commission if it isn't already there. So that is a big reason you are so supportative of this commission.I also know you're club is the only club in London who is putting a fighter on the card so you're thankfull to him for doing that.
Best of luck to Albert for haveing the balls to do this and the Oneida reserve for forming a commission to oversee this event.I hope it goes over without a hitch. However if we have the ability to form a commission to oversee mma in Ontario even though I don't know who is on the Oneida one I still would like to see Antico's group run the commission.
Clear enough for you meathead
