Open carry vs ccw

amadeus - I will never open carry for 2 reasons...

1) I don't want to make anyone unnecessarily uncomfortable.

2) If I ever have to draw my weapon in anger I don't want my attacker to see me coming.

Why would you ever draw your weapon in anger? Hopefully you just misworded that..... Phone Post

bobby14 - But I also think. A lot less crime would happen after about 5 years of everybody open carrying like the western days. Let natural selection run it's course. A lot of people would die off the start. Then it would settle out. Phone Post

"Open carrying like the western days"

Yeah, that didnt happen. Open carry guns on hip fast draw rigs and all is Hollywood lol Phone Post

Not completely true...

Many larger established towns did institute no-carry laws within city-bondaries. Many others did not.

I think the bigger myth is that of guns being carried low around mid-thigh. Or that they were carried with the grip facing to the rear... The 'plainsman's draw' (with the grip facing forward) seems to have been the more popular method.

I was just going to agree with him. Not worth arguing. I teach history. Wwii forward is mostly what I deal with. But I've done plenty of research on the 1800s either way. It doesn't matter. Question is would it be ethical or work in today's society for most people to open carry Phone Post

I think open carry does work as a deterrent... How can it not? However, I think it also makes alot of innocent people needlessly uncomfortable.

There is a guy around town here that open carries. He flys the flag from his jeep, uses leaf camo material as a sun shade for his jeep. He wears black fatigues and carries his 1911 strapped mid thigh with an extended magazine that looks as if his clip is about to fall out.

I really need to try and get a pic of him, he looks really freaking stupid. But then again everyone thinks he is crazy so nobody messes with him. Phone Post 3.0

After a time yes... But alot has to go into changing attitudes.

personally, i like CCW

you can't be targeted if nobody knows you're armed. you can't have your gun taken out of its holster if nobody knows its there

The low slung holster is a creation of hollywood, never used in the old west. Wyatt Earp carried his revolver in his coat pocket during the OK Corral shooting. Chicago was more dangerous than the West was.

open carry = street walking hooker (attention whore)

ccw = high class escort

You shouldn't be allowed near a gun if you're drawing out of anger Phone Post
