Makes it even more of a bummer that the originally scheduled fights fell through, they should have been much more competitive.
Was Radach/Smith the last competitive (televised) fight on a Strikeforce show?
Considering Werdum almost got knocked out AND submitted inside of two minutes, I'd say that was competitive. Ironically I thought that was the only one-sided booking. Everything else on the card was great matchmaking on paper that just happened to result in people getting beat down.
Is it a negative for Strikeforce that Gil Melendez had the best fight of his career and destroyed a world class lightweight? Or that Mousasi put on a Fedor-esque carpet bombing of Babalu in his LHW debut?
I would've liked to have seen one more fight (Hieron vs. Taylor) but that was a great card.
Rickson's Aura - I could just as easily say some of the UFC's recent big fights Lesnar/Mir, GSP/Alves, Machida/Evans, Griffin/Anderson, Bisping/Henderson were all one sided ....but you won't hear me complaining about them. I enjoyed most those fights and the fights I saw on today's Strikeforce card.
Heh yes, I decided to avoid the comparison but the last five headlinining fights in the UFC were incredibly one-sided. But it seems to me UFC and Strikeforce were both highly successfull selling all of these bouts as being compelling matchups, so I'm not really sure what there is to bitch about. I thought Ishida in particular showed a ton of heart staying in that fight as long as he did
I don't know if it's a negative for Strikeforce or not, but it was a negative for this show and made it by far the least enjoyable SF/EXC show for me. Booking or chance, there have just been very very few competitive (televised) fights in Strikeforce/EliteXC. LW should be fine with the Dream sharing; WW will be okay for awhile; MW, LHW,and HW have pretty dim futures unless UFC starts cutting guys loose, and god knows what they'll do with their women's division now.
"Considering Werdum almost got knocked out AND submitted inside of two minutes, I'd say that was competitive."
Ironic that the only competitive bits came when their #2 heavyweight, as you said, "almost got knocked out AND submitted" by Mike Kyle of all people.
"the last five headlinining fights in the UFC were incredibly one-sided."
Yes, and many complained about that, and despite there being other more competitive fights on the cards.
orcus - Makes it even more of a bummer that the originally scheduled fights fell through, they should have been much more competitive. You are SO full of shit trying to say that Mousasi/Babalu was one-sided. It was one-sided AFTER it was over. There was absolutely no reason on earth to believe that fight would be one-sided.

Carano/Cyborg was borderline on paper.
Werdum/Kyle was a one-side warm up fight for Fabricio
Ishida BEAT Melendez the first time just 20 months ago.
You can't blame an org for the high performance of its fighters JACKASS.
You can blame them for showing only 4 fucking fights though.......
The point is, you can't fault them for any of the title fights being so one-sided, it was all good matchmaking. Melendez avenged a loss. Mousasi made his 205 debut destroying a perennial contender. Santos bombed Carano but it was a fun fight for about four minutes and there will undoubtedly be a rematch at some point. These are exciting developments for Strikeforce, I thought the show went off very well despite any grinder-style fights
"There was absolutely no reason on earth to believe that fight would be one-sided."
True; and yet, it was.
"You can't blame an org"
Did I blame them?
"it was all good matchmaking"
I agree. Just a bummer (for me at least) that the fights were so one-sided and the only really dazzling bit was Mousasi's brutal GnP.
There wasn't a disappointing end to any of the fights at least. In that dream tourney when Mousasi knocked out Jacare with the upkick I was bummed, same with the Aoki vs Hansen.. but both those events had very good fights before that. Another is Wanderlei vs Rampage 3... that was very anti-climactic.. that entire event blew actually.
orcus - "There was absolutely no reason on earth to believe that fight would be one-sided."Yes...because Melendez slowly transforming into a finishing machine and fucking mauling a fighter he couldn't even control less than two years ago really sucked....

Now if you started a thread about how UTTERLY STUPID it is to have 4 fights on a card then I'd be right there with you...
Ok I dont post much but here is my 2 cents. I personally thought the card was ok. the production sucks but hey it is showtime. as for all of you people saying Bobalu had a chance in that fight before hand need to get back on thatshortbuss and ride it straight to retard ville.
just my opinion and fuck off all grammar police!!!

Don't get me started on having a show with three 5x5 fights and a 3x5, and only showing a total of 20 minutes and 6 rounds and not bothering to show any prelims.
