Just got a new phone, and wondering if life proof cases are worth it. I've only ever had an otterbox, and life proof is significantly more expensive
God dammit, it was supposed to be otterbox OR life proof cases
I went from otterbox to Lifeproof back to otterbox. The Lifeproof case was so cheaply made that I returned to the bulkier otterbox.
Otterbox Defender that is
Otterbox Defender or gtfo.

I've always had otterbox, until the phone I just got and I have a pelican for it. I like it better than otterbox so far.
I've had a Otterbox defender for my last 3 phones and I've never had a problem, and I'm fairly rough on my phones. Also have a defender on my ipad and it's tough as fuck.
Former chick had a Lifeproof, thing was amazing. Filmed underwater in the pool and the ocean.
They work, but they make devices designed to be sleek, small, and portable about twice as big and unweildy.
I don't know if Lifeproof has fixed it, but there was a huge issue when people on the receiving end of your phone call could barely hear you because the way the case was designed. Also the screen protection seemed to be flimsy and fall off after awhile. I had one a couple of years ago but moved onto an Otterbox since.
Their own site has the at 2.8 out of 5 for the life proof case for my model of phone. Usually if it's off their own site, the reviews are artificially inflated.

What model?
I went from Otterbox (S5) to Lifeproof (S7) back to Otterbox (S8), though I am using the Strada (leather folio case) over the Defender this time around. Especially with wireless charging now, I prefer a case that isn't as bulky, though the Strada is still pretty thick. And plastic screen protectors on these case are garbage.
With newer phones already having water-resistent features, Lifeproof's water-resistent case, which was always a big part of their pitch, is also less of a necessity.
Also found carrying a headphone jack adapter to be annoying. I know the iPhone 7 had one too sans a jack, but it's clear that wireless bluetooth headphones are going to be the norm going forward, so I guess this is not that big of an issue now as it was before.
Further, from my experience (and I see it echoed online too), Lifeproof cases have some very cheap and flimsy plastic on some parts of the case that is prone to breaking. I had issues with the port cover getting worn out fairly quickly.
There are other alternatives, too. Pelican makes affordable "rugged" cases as do companies like Griffin.
I've only had lifeproof cases for iphones and they've lasted pretty good. Though, twice I had either the headphone jack cover or the port cover break but the customer service was awesome. Just called them and said the issue, they took my address, charged me 5 bucks for shipping and sent out a brand new case. They may have asked for a date when I bought my case but didn't ask for proof of any kind.
don't get a life proof. there's a little tab on the bottom that breaks all the time. I've gotten 3 new phone cases in a year (they have a good warranty) but that's ridiculous.

I will give them credit for how quick they sent me a new case though.
Otterbox is an awesome company.

This. My wife and I have a spigen case for our iPhones that is really sleek. My wife dropped her phone while on the second floor of the house down 15 feet on ceramic tile. Screen didn't break, iphon works perfectly.
I don't need nor want a case that will double the size of the fucking phone.
I had Gotten an s5 when they were new and had an otterbox defender with it.
Went to a buddies house and got drunk and went swimming with it my pocket for probably around 10 minutes fully submerged.... Realized I was swimming with a new phone in my pocket so I got out figuring I had fucked it up. nope. It was fine.
So I vote otterbox
