Voorhees,
So you really think that Nelson has a better shot at beating Overeem than Cain?
NorthFromHere - Voorhees,
So you really think that Nelson has a better shot at beating Overeem than Cain?
Yeah. because Kongo and Rothwell both looked like they never grappled a day in their life vs. Cain, and he was able to easily control them.(even though I actually think Kongo may have actually beat Cain based on the fact that he was closer to finishing Cain, and definately won the standup)
But anyway,my point is Cain wont be able to just push around and treat Overeem like that,Overeem is also a threat w/submissions(something Cain has never faced before)and standing Overeem will knock his teeth out.
Nelson is better than I thought he was,and I think he could give almost anyone trouble.
also Nelson seems like he might actually be able to pull off that"outgrapple the strikers, outstrike the grapplers style"
it just takes one flying knee to take out all UFC HWs out there with the exception of Nog, a PRIDE shape Nog can truly sub Ubereem
x Shogun The Great x -
I'm looking forward to seeing Cigano tested against Yvel, His striking has been impressive, but let's not forget he stopped two grapplers and Mirko's corpse. Yeah he has a good kickboxing record but against who? Allistar is in there throwing down and holding his own against the likes of Hari and Remy, he has earned his place at the highest level of stand up fighting.
For me at this point in time Overeem would be a heavy favourite against Dos Santos.
I wonder if all of the overeem nuthuggers have really followed his career or if they are easily impressed by big muscles
maybe when he beats a top 20 MMA HW the nutthunging should be this out of control.
Overeem wouldn't beat Heath Herring.
new nog is too willing to exchange on the feet despite being repetedly hit b4 he takes it to the ground. see his fights w/ herring, big tim, randy. his pride and his belief in his cuban boxing would lead to a brutal ko via overeem.
i doubt anyone else in the ufc hw roster could handle overeem. maybe lesnar if he could take it to the ground and avoid the guillotine.
nofatchicks - I wonder if all of the overeem nuthuggers have really followed his career or if they are easily impressed by big muscles
LOL.
I've been following his career since 2h2h and Rings 1999. I remember him simply because his brother was a famous Ring star at the time, so I paid close attention.
He was inconsistant back in Pride as a LHW. I remember he nearly KO'ed Liddell in his prime, but gassed.
Then he nearly KO'ed Rogerio in the rematch, then gassed.
Now, he doesn't gas so easy. He went all three rounds with Remy Bonjasky in K-1 and was fine.
He will simply KO anyone at will in HW MMA.
Overeem will fight anyone and be a threat to anyone.
Santos, Cain, Carwin are all untested HW's that have yet to have done anything to say they are the best in the world.
Meanwhile, Overeem fights every three weeks in two different sports and KO's / Sub's them all.
Texiera , a well proven K-1 kickboxer, was the latest victim
Hari is the 2nd best K-1 kickboxer in the world, I have no excuses for the loss, except the stoppage was a little early, but Hari did indeed hurt him. Nothing wrong with beating everyone in a new sport except the number two guy...
And as far as MMA is concerned, he took out Turkey (11-3) and James Thompson (who had wins over Yoshida & Frye). Not the most impressive competition, but the way he beat the shit out of them both has got to send signals just how fucking bad ass he is these days.
Alistair losing to Shogun and Rogerio is as relevant as Anderson losing to Chonan and Takase. They are totally different fighters these days....

Nog stood w/Tim cuz he know for a while he would have no choice. He just endured the storm, waited for his chance to get it to the ground and took it.
Nog knew he could outbox Randy because Randy moves his head too much and often the wrong way,and has no KO power, and Nog was right.
Nog simply got caught vs. Herring(anyone who fights Heath Herring THREE times is going to)Nog won every other second of that fight (including standing)
Nog will use his very good standup to get Overeem to make a mistake, and vs. Nog...you cant afford to do that.
Herring In A Fur Coat -nhbguy -Herring In A Fur Coat - There are at least 5 UFC HW I would pick to beat Overeem.
Really? Who are the 5 you'd pick? (You had to know this was coming)
Nog, Lesnar, Carwin, Cain, Dos Santos.
I'd have him even-odds with Kongo and Gonzaga.
You can say he's not the same fighter he was in Pride, but the reality is he's fighting in a whole different sport. Still not proven to be an elite HW in MMA.
This!!!
Time from our daily "I hate the UFC" thread created by Manhoef
I wonder if this is the highlight of your day.
Dont worry Manhoef. I am sure Dana just misplaced the love letter you sent him. It isnt that he wont respond, he just hasnt gotten to it yet. So dont be too upset. He is a busy man and he will respond to your advances soon enough
I can't believe people are sold on Cain, Carwin and Santos being the best in the world...
Let's see how Carwin does against Brock and Cain against Nogueira and then I'll bump this thread. Both will lose and go away. The hype on Gonzaga in 2007 was off the charts.

dude, nog's standup is nowhere nears overeem's. nog would go 0 -5 in five rather than 3 - 2. nog's only chance would be a sub as his g n p is weak.
billco, explain to me how Cain or Carwin would beat Nog?
voorhees - billco, explain to me how Cain or Carwin would beat Nog?
they probably wouldn't as their stand-up is worse than nog's and so is their ground. but we are talking about nog vs monstereem.

Whether Overeem has improved or not, dont you remember Overeem vs. Lil Nog?

OMG HE BEAT JAMES THOMPSON?!!?
Brock is sick, Overeem vs Kimbo for UFC interim title. THEY BOTH BEAT THOMPSON FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!! Dana I hope you're reading this.
