Pacquiao's strategy to force Mayweather bout

First off, I know this is the wrong forum, but figured I'd share my strategy here.

We all know the biggest bout in boxing will probably be challenging to make given Pacquiao and Mayweather being unable to easily agree on money.

Given that Mayweather was hit with a $6 million tax lien by the IRS recently, and was selling stuff on eBay, I figure Pacquiao has a lot of leverage. Both guys need one another, but Mayweather needs it more.

Therefore, Pac Man should announce he's fighting the Shane Mosley-Andre Berto winner next. That eliminates another big-money opponent for Mayweather, and increases Manny's profile even more. Pacquiao is clearly interested in fighting all comers -- Mayweather doesn't want to do that anymore. I think it's a smart strategy -- eliminate all possible options for Floyd will continuing to strengthen your bargaining position.

Take less money? :) I think that at this point, Pacquiao's already in an excellent bargaining position. He can get 50-50. Losing to the winner of Mosely-Berto would ruin his chnaces of a fight against Mayweather. I thought that Cotto was a big risk, and anything can happen in a fight.

"IrishRottie - Mayweather got back to training yesterday.

Roach is a greedy sob. He wants 145 and 60-40. Mayweather vs Marquez did how many buys compared to pacquaio vs Marquez?"

In terms of PPV buys, how did Pacman-Cotto do compared w/Mayweather-Marquez? And ever heard of bargaining? That is, asking for something that you won't get for strategic reasons?

I think that both fighters will draw many, many fans. But you're right: for different reasons. Pacquiao is a pretty big names these days due to all of his recent sucecss in the ring, and he's always entertaining. Personally, I would love to see PBF lose. I cannot stand him. And I don't really care for his style.

If Floyd doesnt take this fight at 50/50, can just all agree it as a duck?

It's always about who gets more money. If I were Pacquiao, I'd try to make PBF come in at 145 lbs..

 ^^^Yep

id say him asking for more then 50 is fair

He did twice as many buys as Manny did vs De La Hoya.

Did more against Hatton and MArquez too.

MAyweather is the type of figure who sells fights

Pacquiao is an international superstar. Mayweather isn't.

It's likely that Pac/Cotto did more buys than PBF/JMM. If Floyd is going to try to blame that on the opponent, then he shouldn't have taken that fight while claiming to "only be interested in the biggest and highest paying fights". He could have stepped up to Cotto at any time. I'm pretty sure Pacman only took that fight because Mayweather refused to fight Manny.

...didnt Marquez already have that in writing and still no avail?

So Floyd is admitting he lied now? His reasoning for taking the Marquez fight as opposed to other ones were that Marquez was Mexican with a large fan base. Now he says he did the Buys all by himself.

Floyd agreed to fight Marquez at 144, and then purposely came in overweight, while Marquez was actually hampered by the weight gain. So Arum commented on the catch weight at last Saturdays post fight press conference, basically saying that Floyd won't bother to meet at an agreed upon catch weight.

It should be 147, 50/50, period.

I'd like to see at a catchweight of 145 lbs. and if PBF comes in overweight, then he forfeits a large share of his purse. That can be written into the contract.

60 - 40 winner gets sixty....

It really depends on the numbers for the Pac/Cotto fight if its around 1.4 million then Pac has a ton of leverage to ask for 50/50 otherwise Mayweather should get 55-45 just due to the numbers he has put up. We all know Pacqiao is the much more exciting fighter but Mayweather is proven to get eyes on his fights. The buy numbers we see are just what is in America. It makes sense that Pacqiao would get all the money from the fillipino T.V. contract.. same with Hatton getting a larger share in the UK money when they fought. I've been to the last two Pacman fights and he is otherworldly as a fighter.. I hope they pull out the stops and make this one of the biggest fights ever.
Also I hope they follow through and hold it at the Cowboys stadium. Ticket prices/ amount avalible are crazy in Vegas. The true fans get priced out due to the casinos.. this fight needs to be for the fans who stuck with boxing the past few years.

PBF/JMM did just over 1 million I think, and advance word on Pacman/Cotto is 1.5 million (and it was $5 more expensive). Mayweather has no leverage at all and should be thankful if he gets 50-50. If Floyd doesn't take the fight and Pacman fights Mosley, there is nothing left for Floyd, he is fucked. I guess he could take on Paul Williams but I don't see him doing that in a million years.

If Paq beats Mosley Mayweather will look like a bitch if he still ducks him.

How sad is it that Pac needs "a strategy" to set up the most logical fight ever?

If Pac beats Mosley, Floyd will have pretty much zero negotiating leverage. Pac will be a bigger star than ever and will have essentially cleaned out the division that Floyd hides in a corner of.
