One great way to pass the Spider Guard.
Nice
thanks
Dennis showed this in class a few years ago and it has become my main way of dealing with the spider guard :)
Looks like you really turn your shoulders a lot to the point where you're susceptible to jelly roll. I try to land on my side but a little toward the front to make it a little more difficult... Are you concerned about that? Are you pulling on his knees a bit to prevent him from going north/south? How are you addressing this? Or does the hard drive of your shoulder into him give you the time you need to avoid it? Thanks.

The grip on my opponents patlegs helps to imobilize his hips, this in combination with the shoulder pressure allows time for a backstep past his legs and then to switch my hips to belly down on the mat.
As anyone ever stopped me from passing this way? - Yes, plenty of times, so I have variations and a number of other passes to use as well.
This pass does work, is simple and effective if done correctly. Best of luck with it!
Wonderful pass technique!!
To counter, release your hand grips when he steps back. When he puts his shoulder weight on your lower torso, lock both arm (straight elbows) and put both hands on the back of his left shoulder (closer to his neck than shoulder).
Elbow escape. He won't be able to establish side control since he now has to break the pressure of both arms. Be careful of the opponent then trying to mount.

yup thanks... just trying to see if I could drag any subtle details out of you on safeguarding against the jelly roll as a I light guy who gets bench pressed and tossed I need any subtle details that I can get.
Beautifully simple. I love it.
