I met Patrick today at my friends gym. He was very nice, and was looking to train with people, MMA. I believe he used to teach at LA. Boxing, and is with Erik Paulson's CSW. He recently moved to Hoboken from Miami for work. The guy is great on his feet and the ground. I did an internet search and he's been fighting MMA since 96 which is great considering it didn't hit the US till 93. He trained in Sweden with Shooto guys as well. So if anyone knows anything about him, I would appreciate the info. Here is a couple links on him. Not the best MMA record, but look at who his losses are to:
I agree about him being better then his record. I mean his losses were to huge names, and back when most people wouldn't fight those names. He also does commentary for WEC, or has done judging for it.
at that point he was more of a wrestler/subs guy. Since then he's really developed. When I was talking to him today, I told him I thought (based on watching him strike and move) that he was a striker that learned to grapple. But he's actually a wrestler that learned to sub, then to strike. I've seen alot of pro-fighters train, and a lot of top notch trainers do their thing, and the's actually the best I've seen so far.
True, Pat has fought some tough guys. It's not like his record is against a bunch of cans. He's trained with some world class trainers and from most accounts has some pretty slick skills.
Speaking of his fight with Cam, there's a quick clip of it on the vid on this page:
Pat is a very intense and motivating guy. As far as submission goes, I developed a very good defense from training with him. We had the benefit of having alot of people from everywhere around the world training with us in Miami Beach so we were really put to the test many many times. I didn't compete alot because I was fighting every day in the gym! With alot of people watching!
I wish I had some motivated people like that around me now but up here in Tampa the theme of people is generally anti-conditioning laziness! but I am changing that little by little.
Conditioning is my absolute favorite thing to do. In my opinion its the most intense, but it yields the best results, its the end all skill. If you don't have it, you have no skills.
