Got the decision of Luigi last night.
I wouldn't say he took more than 5 shots the whole bout, and defended every takedown with relative ease.
He unloaded with some nice combinations and clearly hurt Luigi with a chopping leg kick later in the bout.
It was nice to see him get on the inside and use all the elbow variations and high knees.
Impressive performance.
Couple more wins like that and there'll be little argument NOT to see him back in the UFC.
He's a good fighter, especially when he keeps his cool and isn't just swinging for the fences. I think he could have won both the Diaz and Woodley fights if would have just been more patient rather than loading up every shot.
The Diaz fight, probably.
IMO, the Woodley fight, probably not.
Woodley didn't want to trade punches with him, but his kicks were clearly affecting Paul, and once it was in the grapple, Paul had nothing for him.
It'll be interesting to see in the future though if Paul can take his wrestling and ground game to that level and really cause problems for fighters who want to take it there.
Also, just IMO, I think it's interesting that as time goes on, and perhaps it's a sign of maturation, but Paul seems to consistently improve as regards his composure and level headedness in the ring, and I think that's something that's becoming more evident with each bout.
And IMO, that'll be the a major factor in how his game improves.
Did he make weight last night?
Actually forget the Woodley comment.
That fight was actually close as hell, and perhaps if Daley didn't go for that sub near the end and stayed in a dominant position and maintained his aggression, he could well have got the decision.
Jake Ellenberger with his aggression and strength would be a great match up for Paul if he maintains his improvement in the TDD area and keeps improving the the level-headedness department also.
...when he gets back to the UFC of course.
He will never be back in the UFC after embarrassing the sport the way he did against Josh.
And to be honest (of course this opinion is biased given that I'm a Daley fan) if anyone was an embarrassment in that fight, it was Koscheck.
Holding a fighter down without any real attempt to inflict major damage or finish, will the sole intent being to eek out a decision, is far more embarrassing than Daley's loss of composure post final bell.
Not to say the act wasn't an embarrassment in itself, but it was dog-eat-dog in that fight, and I certainly don't think relavent punishment should preclude his participation in the event to which, given his talent, skill and dedication, he clearly belongs.
No freakin way he ever beats DIaz, DIaz is light years ahead of Daley, has anyone else tried and beaten Paul at his own game?? NO Diaz could have beat him many ways but chose to KTFO which is pretty impprevise dont you think?

Nothing is more embarrassing than sucker punching your opponent after the bell
I would've been more impressed with him finishing the fight. Luigi couldn't take him down and couldn't land a strike yet wasn't anywhere close to being done.

If Daley/Diaz fought 10 times theres no way Semtex doesnt win 3 or 4. He dropped Diaz twice and could have finished him had he been a bit more calculated with his shots.
As for Diaz being able to beat Paul in many ways, he would have had a tough time taking semtex to the ground. His ONLY option was to outstrike Paul. Credit where its due, he worked the body with punches and managed to wear Daley down, but it wasnt the type of fight where one fighter dominates the other. Diaz took some punishment in that fight.
Dr Dale Doback - Why are we talking about him?
He will never be back in the UFC after embarassing my sport the way he did against Josh.
No honor and cant make weight.
I don't get the big deal with the punch.. It's a fight.. How many times have we seen fighters fight the ref to keep attacking..
I've seen champ fights where the guy doesn't stop attacking after the guy is knocked out (just look at previous thread where Hendo ko'es bisping twice) especially with why koschek was saying to daley

I agree. It was classless and rightfully deserved a suspension and/or cancellation from his current contract, but a lifetime ban was excessive especially considering how often this has occurred in mainstream sports.
The 40 lbs up was trolling. Although it's a sad fact it was a thoroughly plausible troll.
22-11 isn't anything to brag on, btw. Luigi is a tough kid, but nobody's getting tricked into thinking he's a world beater rocking a record like that. He's b-level, and so is Paul. Probably shouldn't be a shocker that they had problems with each other.
No can, but the only fighters who he's beat that I recognize by name are Luke Cummo and Woody Weatherby (who I know of from the Massachusetts fight scene).
He's fought and loss to Pete Spratt, Joe Doerksen, Anthony Johnson, Diego Sanchez, Forrest Petz, Chris Leben, John Fitch, and now Paul Daley.
Don't recognize the other 22 people he's fought.
Impressive? If the best you can come up with to describe his performance is that he "unloaded with some nice combos" and he had a "nice chopping leg kick" that would be a "no." He's got 2 decisions in a row now. Clay Guida gets called boring and he's never had more than 2 decisions in a row.
Daley won a decision over LUIGI FIORVANTI. Is he even in the top 30? Luigi's also coming off 2 losses in a row. Daley is 3-2 this year. Hardly impressive.
Perspective. Use it.
I_Heart_Guidos - Dear top grinder, luigi is no can. Go fuck yourself. 22-11 is no can record.
Is this Chael Sonnen?

Daley just needs to keep winning and be humble every chance he gets I hope he makes his way back into the UFC where he belongs.
ClinchedUp - Daley just needs to keep winning and be humble every chance he gets I hope he makes his way back into the UFC where he belongs. He doesn't need to just keep winning. He needs to win impressively in a way that makes noise and makes BLAF think it's worth going back on his word for. When he's fighting lesser competition and getting decisions, it doesn't help him one bit.![]()
