Paul Sass Submits Jason Young

PAUL SASS retained his British lightweight title with another superb display of submission fighting to the delight of a full house at the Olympia on Saturday night.

The Team Kaobon star extended his blossoming MMA record to an astonishing 10 straight wins with a systematic first round heel hook victory over Londoner Jason Young, just two minutes one second into the opening round.

Young, of Team Titan gym, had arrived on Merseyside with a warning to the champion that his stand-up game would prove decisive when the cage door swung shut on the OMMAC4 bill.

But the stylish Croxteth Park champion simply never gave the visitor an opportunity to fight to his strengths. Within seconds Sass converted a flying knee into a takedown from which Young would never get clear of.

Any pre-fight nerves which 22-year-old Sass may have displayed walking into the octagon were quickly dispatched once he got his hands and legs wrapped around the challenger.

From the start Young appeared out of his depth as Sass wriggled his legs up onto his shoulders in an attempt to land his infamous Sassangle, the triangle lock submission which landed Sass his first seven consecutive career victories.

The visitor managed to stay upright but couldn’t find the room to get any punches or kicks off as the champion stuck to him like a barnacle on a rock.

Watching Sass work his submission game resembles an anaconda; slowly, silently squeezing the fight out of its prey, the more Young fought to free himself the more he left himself open to a submsission.

Sass soon had his opponent’s right arm in his grasp and it seemed an arm bar could well be on the cards, yet as quickly as Young freed himself the champion had moved onto anther body part.

Suddenly his torso was coiled around Young’s with his head at the challengers standing feet and seconds later the Londoner was looking visibly distressed.

Sass had moved down to Young’s left foot and seconds later the challenger was grimmacing with pain as the champion squeezed in the heel hook around his left ankle.
