Paul Schreiner: Crucifix From The Back

Hey people, I thought I'd let you know I just posted some footage of fellow forum member Paul Schreiner AKA Delicious Bass teaching the finer points of the Crucifix on my blog www.jiujitsukingdom.wordpress.com . Paul is one of the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructors in the business and I hope you enjoy the video!

Fantastic stuff.  I'd love to get Paul's take on the straight armlock from the crucifix.  I've had a private with MG, seen him do it a million times, still find it hard to get it consistently.  I blame it on my long skinny legs, but Paul is I think my size-ish (6'1", 170) and he has pretty much assimilated MG's game completely, so I am betting he could give some key details for someone of my body type.

I love that armbar and I have had a lot of success with it but I am kinda built like Marcelo.

just wondering regarding leg position... Is it better to trap the arm using the leg closer to the opponents head or the one closer to the opponents legs... Ie... in the video above, the left leg or right leg? And why? I feel I can have better control using my left "lower" leg... But does it really matter? Phone Post

Glad to see everyone likes the video and Paul gets the respect and credit as a great instructor that he deserves! I hope to have him out at my gym next year for some seminars!

P.S. Crucifix armbar from the back rocks and I too have been having a lot of success with it. And although I first learnt it in a class with Marcelo, it was in a private class with Paul that I felt I actually understood how to do it, the timing and why Marcelo does it the way he does!

According to Marcelo, it's easier to escape when the leg closer to the opponent's legs is trapping the arm. If he ends up trapping the arm like that, he always tries to switch so the leg closer to the head is trapping the arm, locking the triangle closer to the opponent's legs.

The figure four needs to be on the leg side of your opponents arm for the armlock. For the choke it can be either way but we tend to keep it the same to have more options. (right leg trap in vid) Phone Post

He does rock some pretty rad glasses.
