“Per sources, Paulo Costa has withdrawn from his main event against Jared Cannonier on Aug. 21. Kelvin Gastelum has agreed to take his place.” – Okamoto shared on Twitter.

No official reason regarding Costa’s removal from the August 21 fight card has been provided as of this time.

Paulo Costa has not competed since suffering a TKO loss to reigning middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 253. Prior to that setback, which served as the first of his career, ‘The Eraser’ had gone 5-0 under the UFC banner – including four wins by knockout.

Bold move. But this won’t end well for him. Dana is going to clamp down on this with cold hard steel.

If fighters really wanted to make some noise, 50 fighters would need to pull a Costa and turn down big main card fights all at the same time. They would need to have an unofficial union of sorts going. Hold a giant press conference with top notch legal representation.

At that moment, UFC might be forced to meet some demands… or they might get rid of all 50 and try to rebuild the promotion with the 550 fighters they have left.

Whatever they do… they need to keep the fighters who talk like Tito away from all the mics at the pressers and let the lawyers speak.

Costa turning down a fight won’t do shit but I’m convinced if fifty Costa level fighters took a stand at once it would be one of the most historic moments in MMA history. Such a move would take the coordination and dedication of many management teams, fight teams and law offices.

Wouldnt it be something if Jake Paul ,and his goofball big mouth had the power to Unionize fighters, and have a voice with nothing to lose, calling out fighter pay/rights.

You can’t knock the guy for trying but it probably won’t end well for him in contract limbo.

Just my 2 cents but it would take all the fighters to band together or certainly a large group to make a difference.

Is he a big enough start that the ufc with blink? But this could start other fighters doing the same. Maybe the ufc would change their model

The fighters have showed time after time that they’re not able to stand together. So this will only lead to a problematic future in the UFC for Costa and the fighters will continue to take it up the ass.

Don’t blame him. Ufc has been making hand over fist money and paying fighters pennies since inception. Then people say stuff like “boxing is different”. How? They put on a night of fights, collect at the gate and sell ppv just like the ufc. The difference is how much goes into the UFC’s pocket at the end of the night
