I was really looking forward to Sherk vs. Penn in November and now the odds of that happening seem very slim, unless Sherk's appeal comes back clean. If the results do come back positive once again we are without a lightweight champ. BJ will obviously fight for the title, but who should his opponent be? I think if Joe Stevenson beats Kurt Pellegrino he should get the nod. Who else is in the equation?

someone from Shooto would be the only thing that would make sense to me. there's no one in the UFC that really deserves the shot yet and BJ doesn't really deserve it either, so they're gonna need someone who is clearly awesome. Someone like Gomi
I don't know if Gomi will have anything for BJ, but if he deserves it he deserves it. BJ handed him his ass a few years ago and there's nothing to make me believe the same thing won't happen again.
If I had to pick a current UFC contender I'd say frank Edgar 'cause he's undefeated and looks F@CKING impressive, imo.

Gomi, Kawajiri, Aoki, Hansen, Sakurai deserve it over anybody currently in the UFC.
I think Penn would beat Gomi again, however Gomi is a completely diff. fighter than when he fought Penn. Fighters change and rematches do not always go the same way. Look at Penn/hughes 1 and 2. Hughes showed nothing in the 1st fight yet people still gave Hughes a chance.
If I had to pick one it would be Gomi because it woudl be fireworks. Gomi is a lot bigger now and is the hardest hitter P4P in the sport.
Gomi was a different fighter at that time... it be a closer fight TODAY... BUT yes the UFC doesnt have many choices at LW, bring some pride guys over...

This is a close fight. I'd give Joe a slight advantage, but Kurt at 155 is a monster.
