I refuse to accept the non-lethal definition based on the etymology of the word, much like I refuse to accept the attempt at redefining “literally” to mean the exact opposite.
Cue King Trav but I think a merucrial light pole is a light that uses mercury as a vapor that when electrified illuminates the lamp.
In this case i suspect there was some sort of short that electrified the pole but it was not strong enough to transfer through the water but strong enough to f*ck you up if you touched the metal pole.

How did both of the first two not die? First kid goes down - who knows...but that second kid went lights out really got away face down in the water right on top of second kid and drowned him if he didn’t die from the shock...their fucking bodies washed away with their heads underwater and not moving and one of them brushed the pole again as their bodies washed past. Are we saying one of them survived?
