People who dont watch Boxing watched FMjr last nit

People who dont watch boxing watched last night and came away bored as fuck asking why did I spend money on this.

Same thing with GSP/Diaz, of course GSP/Diaz wasnt nearly as big but its the mma verion.  Big fight, huge hype, casual fans watch and they leave asking why did I watch this boring ass shit?

For hardcore fans what Floyd did was masterful but to everyone else Canelo was the guy to challenge him and he was outclassed.

To the people who are saying this fight was boring, what fight were you watching?

There were numerous exchanges, Canelo getting rocked, and Canelo fighting his heart out the last 3 rounds. It was way more exciting than 90 percent of the MMA fights I have seen lately. Plus the first fight on the card and the co-main event were great.

Masterful and awesome display of boxing. FMJ should be appreciated for what he is, one of the all time boxing greats. He will be missed when he finally does decide to permanently retire. Phone Post 3.0

It's weird to me that when Floyd does this people call him a master but when GSP does it a lot of people call him boring and bad for the sport.

I enjoy watching both. Phone Post

If you honestly still buy into the myth that Boxing is "dying", you don't know shit about Boxing. You just don't. I'm tired of people repeating that untruth ad nauseam despite having no evidence to back it up.

Boxing is doing fine, with or without Floyd. There are a myriad of stars ready and willing to take the place of guys like him when he eventually retires and Boxing will live on, unchanged.

As always, YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY with these events. I liked the last 2 fights. Never, ever like watching Ishe Smith fight.

Mayweather is possibly the smartest man in sports. He definitely plays it safe and people still keep on paying his tab by buying his PPV. I bought the PPV too, but I am not dissatisfied in the least. Anyway, Mayweather plays it as safe as he needs to and as a result, based on his unbelievable ring genius, talent and skills, he takes very, very little punishment.

More power to the guy. As long as he keeps raking in the multi-millions while not putting it all on the line, I can't blame him one iota. I WISH he would go for it and try to take people out, but he's staying as safe as he can in a brutal sport while making ridiculous money.

not a boxing fan but i watched last night..the undercard fights were not interesting...i wwatched mayweather and i was impressed with his speed and timing but i stopped watching after the 5th round because there was no point to continue..Mayweather is a great boxer BUT if he is so far above his competition why doesnt he finish these guys?

He's definitely talented, but look who his competition is. He got gifted a decision over a past his prime de la hoya. Phone Post

Floyd was "gifted a decision" over a guy that he outlanded 207 punches to 122 and 138 power punches to 82. Makes sense.

Don't forget how Floyd landed roughly 50% of every punch he threw whereas Oscar landed only around 22%.
It's the same argument that mma fans use to say nucks Diaz beat condit.

Oscar was moving toward the whole fight while fmj was moving backwards. Phone Post 3.0

BigBlack23 - Floyd looked fantastic. There was one point where Canelo threw a wild body punch and missed Floyd and punched the ropes and Floyd stopped and looked at the shaking ropes almost if to clown him and say "Wow Really???" I tried to point it out but everybody seemed to miss it. Anybody else catch that??? Phone Post 3.0

Yep, that was late in the fight. Maybe 10th round?

In for gif Phone Post 3.0

Upset?

I was too. For wasting my time last evening.

Boxing most certainly is not doing fine. Even BLAF knows this.

Not upset, just tired of casual Boxing fans such as yourself going on and on about how Boxing is a dying sport and being taken over by MMA. It's an intellectually bankrupt thing to do since you really don't know all that much about how well Boxing is doing right now.

It would be like if the only movies I watched were the Michael Bay Summer Blockbusters, and yet I still tried to lecture a group of hardcore Cinephiles about how the film industry is "dying out" and being "swallowed" by another form of media just because that's what I've been told to think.

I hope that analogy explains to you how impossibly dense people like yourself sound when you talk about how Boxing is supposedly dying.

All of these people who won't watch boxing but watched last night is a win for boxing, a win for PBF, and a win for Canelo. Everyone gets paid.

Nah. You're upset.

Not watching for a number of years the spectacle that boxing has become does not make a "casual fan". As I previously stated I grew up watching some of the best.

I also grew up boxing myself before entering the other martial arts and my father was a Marine Corp champion in his heyday.

Continue on however.

Whether or not you watched it back in the day isn't relevant to your incorrect judgement of how Boxing is doing now. The fact of the matter is that you could have been watching since the 40's and you'd still be dead wrong about Boxing being a dying sport.

The mayweather family will be known as one of the great contributors to boxing...and also as assholes. lol Phone Post

Boxing is closer to peak than it is to death

Those were some fantastic bouts and I will gladly pay to see not only the great money mayweather but almost every one on that card.
I am a wrestler, I was born and raised in a family of wrestlers. I watched the fights in a flat full of wrestlers, but we were pretty much in agreement that the skills on display were the result of a lot of dedication and really hard work, blood, sweat, and tears. its hard NOT to appreciate that. we also LEARNED a lot from those bouts.

I could have been watching MMA since UFC 1 (which I have) and I would be correct in my judgement that it has grown and evolved in a positive manner (which it has).

The reverse has happened to boxing.

With that I shall bow out and go for a run.

Enjoy your sport.

The reverse has happened to Boxing? By what metric? More people are fans of the sport than ever before, there are emerging stars in every weight class and it is a televised sport around the glove attracting hundreds of millions of fans.

If you leave America, boxing's marquee names beyond Mayweather become obvious:

In the UK, they're all about Carl Froch, Amir Khan and David Haye.

Central Europe's Boxing scene is pretty much bossed by the Klitschko Bros. They have their fights watched by over 50 million people in Germany and Russia and regularly draw enormous crowds, exceeding 40,000 fans in attendance.

Gennady Golovkin is also a fast rising star from Kazakhstan who has been making serious headway in the US.

Japan has their own superstars in the Kameda Bros.

For India, Vijender Singh is a bona-fide megastar over there.

Until recently, Anthony Mundine was Australia's biggest draw.

If you're from those areas of the world, you know exactly what I'm talking about, but in America, people tend to suffer from myopia when it comes to sports.

The fact of the matter is this: Boxing is in a better place than it ever has been, globally speaking.

^ but, but...your numbers contradict thefirstdragon's personal experience among his buddies.

No doubt boxing is weaker in North America than during its heyday, but globally it's still going strong. Phone Post 3.0

shoudawhouda - I don't watch boxing. Watched last night. Was reminded why I don't. If that is the best boxing has to offer I'll stick to MMA. Phone Post

I guess if ppl keep paying to watch that kind of fight then theres no reason for him to change his style.
Same thing for mma...gsp is the highest paid and one of the most boring champs to watch.
But mma has more than one superstar. Phone Post

PBF was awesome.I would pay for another ppv for that display last night.just pure brilliant boxing,I knew Canelo would lose, but wow,imo it was a shutout.
